How did Zia’s Islamization lead to sectarian militancy in Pakistan?

When General Zia-ul-Haq took over as the Chief Martial Law Administrator on July 5, 1977, after assuming power and arresting former leader Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on charges of murder case. Zia delivered a nationwide speech on the first day of hijra and announced Islamic laws would be enforced applies and that serious attention be devoted to establishing the Islamic society for which Pakistan was created . General Zia wanted to bring the legal, social , economic and political institutions of the country , in accordance with Islamic principles , values and traditions in the light of Quran and Sunnah, to enable the people of Pakistan to lead their lives according to Islam.

The government of Zia -ul- Haq took a series of measures to eradicate non-Islamic practices from the country. He introduced the Zakat , Ushr , Hadood and Islamic Penal Code of the country. The Government invited eminent scholars to compile the laws on Islamic finance. Ordinance Zakat and Ushr Islamize the economic system was enacted on June 20, 1980 . Cubría only Islamic organizations , associations and institutions. Zakat should be deducted from the bank accounts of Muslims at a rate of 2.5 percent per annum on the balance of Rs 3,000 . Ushr are levied on the performance of agricultural land in cash or in kind, at 10 percent of agricultural production annually.

The Government appointed central, provincial , district Tehsil Zakat Committees and distribute Zakat funds to the needy, the poor , orphans and widows. Shiites were exempted from Zakat deduction from their accounts because of their own religious beliefs. Zakat was to be deducted by the banks in the first day of Ramadan.

A Federal Shariah Court was established to resolve cases in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. Appeals against the Low and High Courts were to be presented before the Sharia Court hearing . Blasphemy against the Prophet
