SEPTICEMIA Septicemia‚ sometimes referred to as bacteremia is a medical term for an infection of the blood‚ or blood poisoning. Septicemia is a serious medical condition characterized by inflammation of the whole body. It is caused by bacteria which enter the bloodstream‚ triggering an immune response which results in inflammation and a slow shutdown of the body’s systems for handling infection. It develops very quickly and frequently results in death if not caught and treated immediately.
