The "Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass" is a very strong book that analyzes the concept of slavery. The story is told by a slave and lets the reader know first hand what a slave’s life was like. It’s very interesting to listen to Douglass explain the every day struggle that a slave would have to go through. He points out how slaves had very little belongings and how they were completely disrespected and feared around most communities. The theme that interests me the most in this novel

Whenever I am assigned a writing task‚ academic or creative‚ such a journal entry‚ reflection paper‚ essay‚ or research paper‚ my immediate reaction is instinctively negative and fearful. In addition‚ I never took the subject seriously in my years of studies because I never deemed

Mr. Douglass was a slave to a very cruel man‚ one who would hardly give any sympathy or forgiving nature to the people working under him. Douglass describes how there was hardly enough food given to feed all the people and that he was left to be begging for food. At the same time Auld‚ the owner‚ and his wife were praising God and asking him for blessings. Auld

By informing his readership of the realities and cruelties of slavery‚ Douglass’ seeks to persuade Northerners to become involved in the abolitionist movement. His descriptions may be graphic but they are necessary to get his topic across to his audience. The examples Douglass uses of dehumanization not only serve the purpose helping the reader to recognize sociocultural dynamics in that society‚ but also serve the purpose of perhaps brining awareness to the already sympathetic North into taking action against slavery.
