The aim of this experiment is to investigate the combustion of various alcohols. The alcohols will be burnt to heat up a test tube of water‚ I aim is to find out how much energy is produced when burning the following alcohols: Methanol‚ Ethanol‚ Propanol‚ Butanol‚ and Pentanol. Any form of burning is an exothermic reaction (heat is given out)‚ this means that the reactants energy is higher than that of the product. Alcohols react with oxygen in the air to form water and carbon dioxide

deionized water for procedure 1( the strawberry part). For procedure 2( our cheek cells)‚ we used the same buffer solution but added red food coloring so we can distinguish the DNA from the rest of the cellular components because it was all a white mixture. Finally‚ ethanol was added in the test tubes because DNA is soluble in water and alcohol causes DNA to isolate from the solution‚ leaving behind all the cellular components that aren’t soluble in alcohol. These solutions allow the breakdown of lipids surrounding the DNA

mixture of volatile components from nonvolatile materials is carried out by a simple distillation in which the material is placed to distill and heated‚ the vapor from the substance is removed and condensed. In this activity‚ we tend to separate ethanol with water. Simple distillation is employed in this process. The candles give off light and sometimes heat. It was also used as a method of keeping time. Wax is a block of chemical compounds mixed together to make the wax. There are two main chemicals used to make the wax Paraffin wax and Beeswax. A wick is usually made of braided cotton used to burn in a candle or an oil lamp. The wick of the candle influences the burning of the candle. Candle wicks are also made out of either the braided cotton or the wick could be rolled

Comparison of Biomass and Biofuels Leslie Stillwagon SCI207: Dependence of Man Instructor: Dr. Dariush Azimi June 13‚ 2011 Revised June 21‚ 2011 When having to wonder how the environment is fairing with all the global warming and climate changes on going in the world. There are more of the renewable fuels to use like biofuels and biomass we have to wonder how all of this will affect the ever changing of the environment. There are several different environmental problems of biofuels and
