Silent Spring Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring (1962) became the inspiration for the environmental movement. Its elegant prose expressed passionate outrage at the ravaging of beautiful‚ unspoiled nature by man. Its frightening message was that we are all being injured by deadly poisons (DDT and other pesticides) put out by a callous chemical industry. This message was snapped up by intellectuals‚ and the book sold over a million copies. Many organizations have sprung up to spread Carson’s message.

The use of poetry is made to capture some aspects of human experiences. In Les Murray’s poetry he portrays aspects of human experiences in the poem “Spring Hail” as he reminisces of his childhood experiences and also the human experiences that involve sorrow in “The Widower in The Country”. Firstly‚ the poem ‘The Widower in the Country’ conveys the grief and emotions accompanying the loss of a loved one. He captures depressing emotions by using connotations of ‘Widower’ and ‘Country’ in the title

“Nothing is beautiful as Spring”. This Italian sonnet was written to describe a natural world. God’s presence is identified as an electrical current that runs through the earth. God’s presence runs like the refracted glinting of light produced by metal foil‚ whenever it is moved quickly. The sonnet quotes God to be like rich oil. Oil is very rich and thick. Oil is needed every where around the world. If you don’t believe it‚ drive your car month after month without getting an oil change or even

Spring Break rolled around‚ same as always. My so-called friends ran off to get drunk or high or whatever it was they did down in Florida. I‚ like a sane person‚ went home and studied because I wanted an actual job instead of slinging fries for the rest of my life and getting a beer gut. Or I tried to study. You don’t skip three grades‚ get a 2400 on your SAT‚ and get into Princeton at sixteen if you’re stupid. But sitting in my old bedroom on the twin bed I’d finally outgrown‚ listening to the TV
