The Golden Age had a “pursuit of learning”. The 21st Century here in America allows us to have the opportunity to learn. The U.S also has a population within itself that contains many different cultures, ethnicities, and different kinds of people. America has much knowledge preserved in its borders because of all of the different types of people. We are a Melting Pot so to speak. Brought to this country through the other cultures have been the geometric shapes, patterns, and also many floral designs. This is how we are becoming artistically and intellectually stronger and achieving these things through the other cultures. Back in the Islamic Golden Age we saw many medical, technological, and scientific contributions. Now in this day of America’s Golden Age we are seeing that same thing happen. Hospitals are becoming more available and apparent in society, these establishments do us great justice if you haven’t noticed. Every day here in North America advances towards cures for specific diseases are being made. They may be small steps toward the actual cure but at least we are making an effort to save more of our people’s lives. When it comes to technology it almost seems like something new technologically is coming out every day. Phones, computers, appliances, etc. So as you can tell it is literally insane how fast these advances are taking place. Economy seems to be one of America’s either favorite or least favorite topic at times. But when it comes to the economy our economic systems are expanding. The natural resources we continue to find boost the expansion of our economy by other countries reaching out to us. This was also happening in the Islamic Golden age when it came to the trading networks.
There is not a whole lot I can say about our political system because in my opinion it has really reached anything to be worthy of a “Golden Age”. What I can say though is the political structure is improving. Our laws have advanced

Europeans transformed earlier patterns of commerce by participating in new networks of exchange, such as the silver trade. This trade network “gave birth to a genuinely global network of exchange” (679) by connecting many parts of the world. The silver trade was also the “first direct and sustained link between the Americas and Asia” (680). Europeans, specifically the Portuguese and the Spanish, also assimilated into older patterns by attempting to participate in (and control) a major trade network: the Indian Ocean commerce.…

Rome itself became a center for artists and scholars. Because it had no major industries or trade, it relied on religious pilgrims and church business for its income. But Rome began to see a rebirth under Pope Nicholas V, who promoted learning and the arts as well as the influence of Greek and Roman culture. Nicholas supported the rediscovery of these ancient cultures through writings and art, and the repair of the crumbling relics of ancient Rome. Rome would be the artistic centerpiece of the city-states.…

Trade networks are crucial to any economic scenario. They allow for the free flow of goods and services to be carried out over wide expanses of land and both within and throughout cultures. Examples of this are most notable for Marco Polo and his expedition across the Silk Road. The expansion of this throughout Eurasia stimulated wealth and cultural richness/diversity in all areas it contacted. Why else would artifacts form one culture be found hundreds of miles away within the territory of another culture? Physical networks were created that linked so many nations and empires together. The Eastern and Western Roman Empires flourished, as they were both two endpoints of a complex web of roadways and trade systems. These changed over time to encompass more and more swathes of land. Traders, seeking fortune, were always looking to expand their control and dominion to turn another profit. This mentality can still be seen today. So many big businesses (or even small) seek new markets to “hawk their wares.” Yet many still things were still changing.…

The accelerating pace of international trade is one of the most dominating, and important features, of contemporary life. Globalization is creating widespread changes for societies, economics, and governments. Since the invention of the steam engine, transportation and communication limits have faded away and, with the development of the Internet, practically disappeared. A case can be made for the proposition that trade, throughout history, has been the main engine for the development of the world as we know it today. In his book, A Splendid Exchange: How Trade Shaped the World, William J. Bernstein makes this case.…

The focus within each chapter comes from the following areas. Foreign trade has a full place for millennia and has had a deep impact on human growth. Throughout history, trade has been mainly nations’ key cause of success. The initial long-distance trade goods were the most valuable, hard-to-get items: silk, incense, jewels and gold. Spices replaced these pickings as the world’s most pleasing possessions. The hardy camel was essential for moving supplies over long desert convoy routes. Ancient land and sea trade was hard, dangerous and crime-ridden, but very profitable. Nations long fought to control trade routes and to control world commerce. They succeeded in turns, from Islam’s merchants to the oceangoing Portuguese and Dutch. The discovery of the New World vividly changed world trade, bringing a mass of new products to…

Although some historians believe that the late 19th century was a golden age in American history, to many living during the time it was an era filled with corruption and hardship and thus was coined by the author Mark Twain, the Gilded Age. “The term Gilded Age represented the view of many during the time period and stood for a society that appears magnificent on the outside but is quite brittle under the superficial golden layer” [1/26/11]. For example, the economy during this time was called a triumph of industrial capitalism and was marked by great wealth, yet during this period the United States went through two costly depressions. Moreover, this period saw a rise in progressive movements but was also marked with inequality, segregation, persecution and sexism that thwarted any hopes for social development and progression. Lastly, the corruption of the political system and unrestricted influence of Big Business diminished the role of the democratic process and hindered civil liberties. The Gilded Age of American History was an era of unresolved problems with dreams of success followed only by failed aspirations and adversity.…

After World War II ended, many expected the times of The Great Depression to return. Surprisingly the United States economy experienced a boom because of consumer demand. President Dwight Eisenhower encouraged Americans to take advantage of the country’s new found wealth. The American people became interested in new gadgets, electronics, and the most significant purchases of that time, homes and cars. These purchases fueled the economy even more, and led to new opportunities for careers and wealth. The Americans relished in this new lifestyle. It became known as the “American Dream.” (The Post War Economy, n.d.)…

Innovations in transportations, state policies and mercantile practices contributed to the expansion and development of commercial networks, which in turn served as supervisors for cultural, technological, and biological diffusion within and between various societies.…
