Fine motor skills are a key point in a Childs physical development these are used when a child uses their small muscles for example their fingers and hands, children use fine motor skills when they write and are using scissors, this is important in a child's development because it teaches them how to use there fingers and hands this plays an important role through out their development so they can be independent such as getting themselves dressed and being able to button a shirt and help them develop further by using there fine motor skills in other areas, when a child uses their thumb and fingers this is a an aspect of fine motor skills.
Gross motor skills
Gross motor skills are when a child uses the bigger muscles in their body for example their legs and arms these are use when a child kicks a ball or when they are sitting or standing these helps …show more content…
a child to perform everyday functions, this is important for many reason but I will now list you a reason for why it is important if a child cant use their gross motor skills this also may lead to health problems such as not being able to keep fit and healthy.
At birth
Can lie on their backs with their head to one side.
When a baby is place on their front “Prone position” they will atomically lie with their heads to one side and their bottom humped up into a ball like shape with the knees tucked under themselves.
A new born baby will normally hold their hands closed with their thumb tucked under their fingers but may open when they are getting feed or when someone is stroking their backs. 1 months
Will be able to turn from their side to their back.
Can lift their head for a short amount of time from the “Prone position”.
Can open their hand to grasp an adults finger.
Can make uncontrolled leg and arm movements.
At 3 months babies are showing more interest in their toys and things to play with.
When held up a child who is three months of age can sit with their back straight.
Is able to wave their arm and can bring their hands together over their body.
Can copy adults movements by moving their head.
Can unclasp and clasp their hands and put them into the mouth.
Will have little head lag when moved into a sitting position.
6 months –
Starts to sit up by themselves without any needed support
Can roll on back and tummy and also side to side this uses all their body muscles.
Can stand up with some needed support when doing this they can bounce up and down this uses all their leg muscle strength.
At this stage they can rock forward and back and can crawl.
Can move objects from one hand to the other such as a toy.
9 months –
At this age they are able to use their full body strength from sitting down to being able to pull themselves up and are able to stand up and balance without any support.
Are able to transfer food from their hand to their month by
themselves.
