Policies and procedures need to be kept up to date by a rolling set of periodic reviews. It is important that policies are dated, review dates noted on them and that the reviews are held in a timely manner to ensure that the documents do not fall out of date. Identifying named individuals who are responsible for certain policies will ensure that there is someone accountable for maintaining each of the policy and procedure documents.

15. Explain the role of schools in national policies relating to children, young people and families.
Schools are expected to know about and show that they are working to National policies which relate to children, young people and families. The Every Child Matters Framework is a perfect example of this. This promotes the child, their rights and well-being through setting out a clear vision of what they want to achieve and documenting the individual elements within Government that exist to meet the following objective:
“Our aim is to ensure that every child has the chance to fulfil their potential by reducing levels of educational failure, ill health, substance misuse, teenage pregnancy, abuse and neglect, crime and anti-social behaviour among children and young people.”1
By engaging with Government schemes such as The Every Child Matters Framework schools are encouraged and supported to raise standards in the school and work to eradicate poverty. One way to help children in areas where poverty is common place, is to include a before and after school club. Clubs can not only provide wrap around childcare, enabling parents to find work easier, but they can also provide nutritious meals which the child may not be being provided at
