“What better way to begin you morning than with a practice of gratitude” (Scott & Davenport, 2017, p. 39)? When I have to get out of bed to go to work, it has become a mindless task. Being mindful of my surroundings, having a roof over my head, a soft warm bed to wake up in every day, gives me good reason to be grateful every day. I have begun to set my alarm clock ten minutes earlier in order for me to slow down and be grateful for the beginning of my day. I take time to mediate for 3-4 minutes listening to the sound of the ocean, and then I take deep breaths and relax my muscles from the top of my head, to my feet. Unfortunately, I cannot get it done every day, but I am working on getting into the habit of doing this as a mindfulness activity before I leave the house. It has helped a great deal with my stress in the morning. I have noticed that I am not as grumpy when I walk into work.
