various ways to declutter your mind. To declutter something, is to remove the unnecessary items, and make something more clear. Scott starts by stating, “This thinking/judging dynamic infects us with painful emotions. The more fearful, guilt-ridden, regretful thoughts we have, the more stressed, anxious, depressed, and angry we feel”(10). The author is trying to inform the population that the way we think or judge issues can be one of the major causes for certain mental strains. This information helps me understand the contrasting effects of the judging dynamic. Particular parts of the book examine other subjects but this is about daily stress, “In fact, the stress created by information overload, physical clutter, and the endless choices required from these things can trigger an array of mental health issues like generalized anxiety, panic attacks, and depression”(18). I learned a lot from this quote, I did not know that when the body is overwhelmed the body will adapt by creating stress. Ways to avoid this are pretty simple, don’t over schedule, have 10 minutes to meditate everyday, and lastly don’t procrastinate causing overwhelming work at the last minute. Now onto the next part of this book. The second piece to this book is “Decluttering your life obligations”, it will feature ways to eradicate stress between all of your life obligations, and ways to help you through your daily life. Identify your core values by asking yourself, “Who do you want to be and how do you want to live your life?”(47). I was blown away when I found that just thinking of the most important things in my life helped me see clearly and helped me push through the ups and downs. “Because your core values can serve as a measuring stick for all your choices and decisions in life, keeping you focused on the person you want to be and the life you wish to lead”(45). This could be one of the more important things for my isearch project because it will teach my readers an I how to get through the stress levels, by just picking out the most important things in our lives. Moving on, the next important topic will be decluttering our surroundings. Decluttering our surrounds is also an important subject due to the constant times it occurs in our lives.
Our lives partly become stressed due to our neurons, “Your brain contains about 100 billion neurons, with another billion in your spinal cord”(9). Neurons has a huge link with stress because whatever causes the stress, effects your neurons first. Have you ever tried to read a book or write a paper, while in a room full of talking people? Well if you have, you know it is hard to focus, this is, “In other word, when your environment is cluttered, the visual chaos restrict your ability to focus”(102). This links to my isearch because it can be stressful trying to get essential work done, when not having the ability to focus. If the work does get completed, it will not be the highest quality, “Clutter distracts you so you’re unable to process information as well as you would in an uncluttered, organized, and serene environment”(102). My isearch is about ways to avoid and relieve stress but this could bring a new aspect to my research, looking into the effects of stress and what can happen to someone that is stressed. When your brain is full there is no more space nor time to enjoy the moment, “Your brain is so busy trying to process all of the visual stimuli that can’t fully enjoy the moment”(103). This cold improve my isearch paper because I can learn about how someone could miss out on important moments because they are too caught up on stress. To avoid stress from your
surrounding, declutter it by organizing and cleaning out over cluttered areas. This could give the brain a cleanse and also the room or space.
Ultimately this book has given me multiple new views on ways to live your life and declutter the mind. In some ways the book surprised me with the various techniques that were used to declutter or terminate stress. Nothing saddened me in the book because there was nothing to be ad about, it was a book full of ways to avoid stress and negative thinking. It gave me hope because if I ever feel depressed or stressed I can always refer to this book and it will help me out of hard times. “Throughout this book, we offered a wide-range selection of ideas and tools for decluttering your mind so you can quiet the negative voice in your head, experience less stress, and enjoy more peace of mind.
