The Department of Homeland Security as a whole is responsible for securing our nation and ensuring the safety of all the citizens that make the United States its home. This mission has become more important since the September 2011 attacks that brought this nation into a devastating period. It was after these attacks that we found kinks in the system that we used prior to these events, from the way we communicated to the way that we secured our borders. This task is accomplished by many different federal, state, local, and private agencies working together to ensure the success of this mission. I will now talk about a few of the private enterprises that work hand in hand with the Department of Homeland Security to accomplish this vast mission. In the local aspect of homeland security the first thing that comes to mind is the local police department and the sheriff’s department. These agencies work together to ensure that the local laws are enforced and the safety of the community is achieved. It is also the responsibility of each and every American to do their part to obtain this goal. When everyone works together to ensure that all that can be done is being done that the Department of Homeland Security and the United States accomplish this mission. It takes everyone from the homeowner to the President doing their part to make this mission a success. If one area fails and there is not another agency there to help pick up the slack that the entire mission
