a lot of things that are happening today through the story which places it more to the non-fiction side on the curve of truth. The same basic plot could be used in a non science fiction story because of its realistic elements. Today there are not many governments like the one in 1984 but if we were to classify Winston's Political party, it would be classified as a totalitarian government, that is to say that they have absolute control. The plot can be used for a non science fiction story because it contains elements of humans the tendency to lie, to rebel, and to cheat, and also the elements we see in many governments to control, to manipulate, and to supervise. The main point of the plot is about a man who defies the strict laws of his party although he is part of it, and end’s up falling in a trap that was set up for his defying of the law. In the end the only reason why he was being tortured was because the party wanted to make people like him believe things that were fake and make him just another happy citizen being controlled physically, mentally, and emotionally. Winston was spied on and set up, manipulated, and forced into believing something, in politics this happens all the time all around the world, and it can be put into a book in any moment. In 1984 a theme I found was the dangers of a Totalitarian government. George Orwell went to extremes in this story warning governments and systems of the dangers of a totalitarian government. Orwell constructed a perfect totalitarian party through his writing, he didn't directly involve himself with the consequence but he instead let the reader decide through the story, and he describes in depth how places can be if in control of one sole authority who believes in perfection. Today the largest image we have of a ruling force in control of everything is the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong un, he controls everything and wipes out anyone he feels is a threat, exactly as Orwell describes the party of winston in his writing. North korea is an example of a totalitarian government and this places 1984 more towards the non-fiction side on the curve of truth because it is happening right now. I would recommend 1984 to someone interested in politics, and finding different problems there are in the world through other sources and not just examining what is told to them.
Today there are many similarities between 1984 and modern governments such as the control of technology and the governments ability to see everything you do, not through direct cameras,as described in 1984, but through social networks. The totalitarian type of system in North Korea is a second example of how rebellious thoughts or actions are not tolerated. The party of Winston in the story did both of these, manipulation of technology and used their forces against anything they believed was wrong. George Orwell was not imaginative or fictitious in his writing, instead he warned people through his writing and helped many understand the dangers of a totalitarian government and how life would be if we were to be without freedom. 1984 is a piece of literature that falls on the non-fiction side of the curve of truth because George Orwell did not write it simply to entertain, but he wrote it to warn humanity about one of the most dangerous political groups and beliefs there
are.
