2) On page 43, Winston states that “it was not even forgery. It was merely the substitution of one piece of nonsense for another.” Explain what he means by this.
He means that because there was no laws in oceania, Forgery did not exisit he was just simpily changing the words into a new language or a different language.
3) What does “vaporized” mean? What is an “unperson.”
Vaporised means to disappear into thin air. In 1984 when you are vaporised you are killed and all things linked to you in history are erased, so only the memory of you exists.
An unperson is someone who no longer exists.
4) Describe, in detail, what the Records Department (p 45) produces.
People in the records department change articles in history or articles for the daily newspaper. They do this by changing the oldspeak in to the new newspeak language.
6) What is a “speakwrite”?
A speakwrite is a mechanism that changes the words you say into words on a screen.

I think that Winston calls Syme “venomously orthodox” because he believes in the party and the Ingsoc ideals so much that he was horrible to be around. Winston could have also meant that he was so orthodox that he would only lead to the vaporisation of himself.
4) What is Oldspeak? Why would the Party want to get rid of Oldspeak?
Oldspeak is the language of English. The reason why the party wanted to get rid of Oldspeak is because if they control the language and the words spoken then they can control the beliefs and what is real or not real. For if a word to describe something doesn’t exist then how can it actually exist (e.g Freedom)
6) What does Winston think is wrong with Syme?
