Ingsoc is the Party’s dominating ideology which guides the entire way of life for all citizens and the way the nation of Oceania is run according to the Party’s mascot Big Brother. Big Brother represents all that Ingsoc and the Party stand for which is War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is Strength. The Party controls all aspects of life within the tyrannical society that they have established over the entirety of their dominance in government. They consistently oppress, degrade, brainwash, and limit all individual thought and creativity. Oceania’s government stands for nothing more than total and complete power over all citizens within their nation with a goal of stretching their power across all corners of the globe. The eventual
Goldstein says, “It governs so inefficiently that the masses are stirred to revolt.” In this case the eventual fall of Big Brother will be due to its inability to efficiently control its people, because of the years of invasive and tyrannical behavior of the ThoughtPolice on behalf of the Party. Ingsoc ideology entails Ignorance is Strength which is essential to maintaining dominance over the proles and outer party members, but overtime no matter how much brainwashing and propaganda is used people will still realize the shortcomings of Big Brother and attempt to overthrow the Party. According to the idea War is Peace consistent war will help to maintain peace around the globe and within Oceania society. Citizens of Oceania will realize the lunacy of such ideology and the inconsistencies associated with wartime on behalf of the Party. The proles and outer party members will become judgmental and question the ethics and honesty of the party eventually leading to a revolt due to the Party’s inefficiency to run a proper government on behalf of the people as opposed to on behalf of the inner party members. Once all these ideologies proposed by Ingsoc come crashing down it will open a gateway for revolution against Big Brother and the demise of Big Brother and the Party as a
A brutal and forceful recapture of society which could involve mass killings, torture, and imprisonment is the best chance for Big Brother to regain dominance, but also possesses the largest chance for a more aggressive response by the revolutionaries. The citizens of Oceania could take this tactic as confirmation of Big Brothers oppressive nature and seek to ultimately aggressively destroy it once and for all. The increased manipulation of mass media and use of propaganda would be a more subtle way to downplay the extent to which a revolution may be taking place against them. This could discourage potential candidates that would have joined the revolt to take down Big Brother, but still has a large margin for error to fail if not done perfectly
