Noise in generally can be defined as unwanted sound. Noise has many definitions depending on the sources of the sound and the effect to the recipients. (Zulkepli & Hazel, 2000). Noise is sound that can create an undesired physiological or psychological effect in a person, that may interfere with social between a person and group which include communication, work, rest, recreation, and sleep. (Davis & Cornwell, 2013). The word noise is suitable to define as unwanted sound that creates annoyance and interferes in conversation, disturbs sleep and teaching and learning process. Noise also can reduce work efficiency, causing stress to the recipient and challenge to public health, and it is a problem growing every …show more content…
The decibel scale is simple and easy to use because it does not involve long linear numbers. Decibel gives approximation of the response of human ear to loudness of the sound. There must be a weighing network with every unit of decibel at the end of it. This weighting network at the end of decibel unit is used to differentiate sound based on its frequency (Zulkepli & Hazel, 2000).
There are three categories of weighting system that is always used which are A, B and C. The difference between weighting network A, B and C are A distinguish against the low frequencies. B also distinguish against the low frequencies but to a lesser extent, and C to the least extent. Another type of weighting network is D, D is used to measure noise from airplanes. The characteristic of weighting network A is almost similar with human ear, therefore in this study weighting network A is used at the end of decibel units (Zulkepli & Hazel, 2000).
Instrument used to measure noise level in this study is sound level meter. The Unit used for this instrument is decibel. Sound level meter is specifically designed to react with sound that is similar to human ear. The difference between sound level meter and human is that the sound measured by this instrument will be processed and can be change into numbers for interpretation purposes (Zulkepli & Hazel, …show more content…
It is depending on the places where the school is built. A school which is located near the city area has higher noise level because it has many sources that can contribute in producing the noise. One of the sources of noise is due to higher amount of vehicles that going in and out of the city. Noise from vehicles especially trucks, buses and motorcycle are annoying and disturbing. (Zulkepli & Hazel, 2000).
