A2. As a carer you not only have a duty of care to the service user you support, but also other staff, your employers and members of the public. When you act in persons best interests you must do so with that persons consent unless they lack the capacity to understand that it is in their best interest to comply. For example when you support a service user to a doctors appointment and they will not allow the doctor to inspect their injuries, your duty of care to that individual dictates that you act in their best wishes and so may have to go against what the individual wants in order for them to get treatment. You should follow company policies and procedures concerning your duty of care and follow/write up risk assessments for any perceivable risks. You should also ensure that you always act to the best of your ability to be trustworthy, respecting service users dignity, with compassion and integrity to ensure they are safe.…

Principles of the care value base everyone has rights because of the discrimination laws and the human rights act. These rights give individuals to the freedom of expression of thought and to have a private life, protection and safety from torture, slavery, abuse, unfair treatment, dignity, access information about themselves and to be able to use a preferred method of communication and language. Health and care workers have many responsibilities to make sure that they take good care and the right care values for their patients and service users. They need to be polite, caring, considerable and patient with them. Each patient and service user has a different need, want, preferences and expectations, they need to be able to recognise this. They also should be able to recognise what the user or patient is able to do, and should always encourage them to make choices in their lives so they are still in control of themselves so they will feel good. This not only makes the user/patient feel good about them but also helps support the service user's rights to be cared in the way they need to be. Care workers have to give the users privacy in order to make sure the patient’s rights are fullfied, not only does this help with the patient’s right but it also builds trust between the work and user. Health and care workers have to use the care value base in their work as it is one of their main responsibilities, each care value base as different for each job, however this will be explained to the employee in their job description, work policy, procedures and some mission statements. There are many principles of the care value base, below are the principles: * confidentially, an example of this is when a care worker discusses information with another care worker; this is not following the care base principles. It is very important a care worker keeps confidentially with the user in order to gain trust, safety and legal requirements. * Discrimination, the service user might not be…

Personalisation I social care allows the individual to take control over the care they receive. An example of personalisation includes personal budgets that are catered to the specific needs of the individual. The Department of Health produced a quadrant in which personalisation can be summarised. The first section includes universal services this involves providing individuals with information regarding a variety of care and leisure services, this gives service users the choice to choose a service most suited to them. Social capital is the next section of the quadrant, this promotes community support networks such as volunteering which can be implemented by both services and users. Another section includes early intervention this ensures the right support is provided such as better housing and plans for rehabilitation. The final and perhaps most important section of the quadrant is choice and control, this includes personal budgets and personal preferences (SCIE, 2010). Each aspect of personalisation adopts values that empower people using social care services to become more independent and take control of various aspects of their life that may otherwise seem out of their control. Personalisation was introduced in 2007 through the government’s Putting People First Concordant (SCIE, 2010). I feel this is a step in the right direction to improve the quality of care…
