Carter found over 2,000 objects in the four chambers, including the king’s coffin, which was made from 22 lbs. of solid gold. Inside the coffin was Tut’s body, and scientists concluded from it that he died very young. There are many speculations on how he died, so it is not known for sure if he was murdered, died of a sudden sickness, or died of some sort of accident.…

“They poured in bronze to make the outer coffin. Palaces and scenic towers for a hundred officials were constructed, and the tomb was filled with rare artifacts and wonderful treasure. Mercury was used to simulate the hundred rivers, the Yangtze and Yellow River, and the great sea, and set to flow mechanically. Above were representations of the heavenly constellations, below, the features of the land. Candles were made from fat of "man-fish", which is calculated to burn and not extinguish for a long time.” – Sima Qian, Shiji, Chapter…

The body that has been taken for analysis from the Chinese burial ground is an adult male. He is an adult because his femur is 50cm long which is around the average height and the epiphyseal discs are completely ossified so he is not going to grow anymore. He is a male because his pelvis is narrow and the pelvic outlet is small. This man was in good shape because the deltoid tuberosity, tibial tuberosity, and linea aspera are very distinct and well developed and his bone density is heavy which means he exercised a good amount. The circular hole in the temporal bone with edges that are smooth and well healed may indicate that this man may have had some sort of surgery to release pressure inside the skull.…

It is small and put together with many different sized pieces of cedar wood. It is rectangular in shape and has a lid that keeps it closed. The discovery of the coffin is quite interesting, it was discovered in the city of Tar-khan in a cemetery chamber that was sealed off. Early coffins, such as this one, were often very simple and small. Though it is small, it was made for a fully grown adult. In order to fit inside this coffin the deceased would have been curled up into a fetal position. The coffin would have then simply been buried in the sand. This coffin was not buried in the ground, but was hidden in a chamber. When the coffin was opened, the body inside the coffin was wrapped in layers of linens but not mummified. Interestingly enough, The Rosicrucian Museum also houses the body that was inside the coffin. The body of the man is still wrapped delicately in linen, while looking at it, one can only imagine the time and precision ancient egyptians used when preparing their dead for the after life. I feel for the man though, how could he have ever imagined his bod would one day be on display. (Rosicrucian…

    1. Discuss the different kinds of methods used to study preserved bodies (x-ray, CT scan, DNA testing, carbon dating) and the types of information they reveal. First you document its appearance with photographs, then X-ray the body completely. X-rays will reveal what is inside a wrapped mummy and the condition of the body. Sometimes more than one body has been found inside a wrapped mummy; other times an extra head or leg or even a baby has been discovered. X-rays may also reveal certain diseases or afflictions that the person suffered. By using x-rays, a scientist does not have to unwrap or undress the mummy. Conduct a dental examination…

The Tomb of Qin Shihuandi is a massive tomb that is surrounded by thousands of terra-cotta soldiers frozen as sentries for the “First Emperor” of China. Over eight thousand soldiers have been unearthed, along with stone chariots and horses. Many precious treasures have been found as well, such as jade jewelry and ornaments made with precious metals. The actual tomb part of the site has yet to be excavated, but is said to have the emperor buried in a bronze casket in a pool of mercury. Tests have verified the possibility as they confirm the high levels of mercury. Of the many amazing things about the tomb, perhaps the most fascinating is the soldiers themselves. Each has a distinct face and set of clothes despite their daunting numbers and the evidence that a uniform mold was used as a form of assembly line procedure in their creation.…

Both mummies from just the clay molding that was displayed appeared to be small short people with what would appear to be an athletic build. King Tutankhamun could in my opinion be passed off as a female mummy that lost all of her hair from just the bust that was displayed. Then there was mummy #111517 who was named Minirdis, who also had a just a head mold that was created of him alongside the head mold was a gelatin skull recreated from a CT scan. They had the images of the CT scan there displayed on TV screens the images were staggering to be how detailed they are considering that the coffins were never opened nor the mummies unwrapped. In some of the CT images you can actually still see the organs inside the mummy, I found it amazing how well the ancient Egyptians preserved the bodies for the afterlife. The one mummy CT scan of Minirdis was placed in a large coffin when he died, it was stated that he died in his teenage years by accident or his death was…

Then, the bodies were in Natron salt wrapped in linen or dried in the sun for four to five days. Sometimes, they were covered in plastic to cover the body to look like themselves. Then, “The body cavity was stuffed with resin, sawdust, or linen and shaped to restore the deceased's form and features” (“Life in Ancient Egypt” 1). Finally, the body was tightly wrapped in between the layers of linen with numerous good luck charms, and amulets. Although, the mummification was a trial and error process it still was pricey and not for everyone. Meaning, some still had to be buried the old fashioned way in the…
