“Marketing is becoming increasingly irrelevant to the needs of business today”. To what extent do you agree with this statement?

Yes: becoming more irrelevant nowadays

Because

1.The decline within the firm
-Lack of authority and credibility
-Marketing function has been send out across department
-CMO have little power

2.De-skill of marketing staff
Because marketers are lack of marketing skill so marketing failed
-Marketer myopia: Look for short-term result only (monthly, this quarter, this week) Use ‘me too’ product  customer feeling angry with it
So, they use tactical approach focused on quarterly targets to keep shareholders happy
-Anyone can be marketer need to require certificate

3.The negative feeling to marketing from organization and customer
-More than 60% have a negative feeling and only 10% express positive view about marketing
-Skill gap: Can’t communicate or explain with other departments so the budget often cut down
Marketer don’t know about finance and also other don’t understand marketing

4.Power of technology
-Customer feels more appreciate with co-creation
‘Do it yourself marketing’
-Internet have incredibly empower customer
(e.g. share comment about the brand or product via the Internet)
-People find what they want on the Internet
(So, Facebook and twitter are new way to do marketing)

As Internet access increase through out the world,
