23 Daily Habits That Will Make You Smar
23 daily habits that will make you smarter

Getting smarter isn't something that happens overnight. Instead, you have to build your intelligence every day through intentional daily habits.

In a recent Quora thread, "What would you do to be a little smarter every single day?", readers shared their advice on good habits you can establish.

Here are some simple actions that could help you become a smarter person.

1. Come up with 10 ideas every day. Think about how to reduce poverty, how to solve a daily problem you have, interesting movie ideas, or anything. It doesn't matter what subject your ideas fall into, as long as you're working your brain and your idea muscles. Your list might even lead to a new startup idea or writing subject. — Claudia Azula Altucher

2. Read the newspaper. It will help you become more aware of the important things happening around the word. You'll learn to form your own opinions and connect the dots between seemingly unrelated things. You'll also have a lot more to talk about at parties or with friends. — Manas J Saloi

Reading newspaper will help you become more aware of the important things happening around the word.

3. Play devil's advocate. Take something you recently learned and generate a unique opinion on it that wouldn't immediately come to mind. Try to support it with evidence, and be open to the idea that new evidence will change your opinion. Repeat this every day, and you'll become much better at thinking outside the box.

If you're feeling stuck, try reading and critically evaluating the editorial section of papers. They will help you understand how other people form arguments and express their opinions. — Peter DePaulo

4. Read a chapter in a fiction or non-fiction book. Aim to read a book a week. You can always find pockets of time to read, whether on your daily commute or while you're waiting in line. Goodreads is a great way to keep track of everything you read and to also find a community of other readers.

Everyone wants to be intelligent, and everyone wants to know the crucial technique to be intelligent. Carol Dweck, the psychologist in Stanford University suggests that intelligence depends on the different mindsets in her article “Brainology: Transforming Students’ Motivation to Learn.” Also, I believe that one of the mindset is the key to develop intelligence and being successful.…

We need to renew ourselves daily. Covey wrote we need to take care of our heart, soul, mind, and body. To take care of the heart we need love, for the soul we need relaxation. For the out mind we need to gain knowledge, and for our bodies we need to stay fit and healthy. Habit seven is “Sharpen the Saw”. Taking care of ourselves is very important. Covey writes about our values. What are values? Values are the items we are proud of in life, and the people that we love. These people and items are true treasures. Just taking time to sit back, and look at all of the challenges we face, and to feel good about ourselves is amazing. We can however ask ourselves if we could do better. Everyone should say they can do better, however perfect is not an option. If we follow our values and the seventh habit it will make life easier, and happier. At the end of the day we need to be able to look at ourselves and smile. Covey wants us to take care of ourselves. “Abraham Lincoln was once asked “What would you do if you had eight hours to cut down a tree?” He replied, “I’d spend the first four hours sharpening my…

    Fixed Mindset

I thought that I had a certain amount of intelligence and I cannot improve it by practice or by anything. How funny is it because currently I am a biological science major at UC Irvine and my grades in the sciences courses are high? All this variation happened when I started going to American high school at the age of 14 years old. My high school teachers influenced me to stay resilient and keep practicing until I get the thing I want despite all the challenges. Thus, I started to modify my mindset from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. As a high school student, I had desire to absorb and aim to survive through difficulties, learn from criticism, and be inspired by other successful individuals. Referring to Carol Dweck in her book Mindset: The New Psychology Of Success “Picture your brain forming new connections as you meet the challenge and learn. Keep on going.” Carol argues that mind develops and became smarter each time you challenge it. Also people should imagine how minds works overtime and system new networks, minds can be trained. My high school teachers trained me that making mistakes is fine because if you do not make faults in your life you do not attempt hard sufficient. And the significant thing is to pay attention to…

It is important to understand this balance in order to read and analyze any given opinionated article simultaneously. It is a skill that will lead to more informed citizens, that will use their own background of knowledge to take into consideration the opinions of others and form their own intelligent response, rather than flock to the first idea thrown at them. On the reverse side of this idea, having this skill set leads to better formation of original arguments (Ludsford and Ruszkiewicz 93). Knowing how much, what manner, and to whom these appeals are applied make up the perfect formula to writing a persuasive anything. I used this article as an example to show that even the most highly accredited authors can get the recipe wrong sometimes, and through the use of rhetorical tools I can still form an informed decision about the…

Sometimes, I overthink without even noticing it. It could be the smallest thing, but somehow I start having different scenarios about what might happen in the situation. This is something I need to improve so that things can smooth out. Another area I need to improve in is avoiding distractions. It would start at my house where my mom asks for a favor. I tell her that I’m about to do it, but I get on my phone to watch vine videos. It turns out that I’ve been on it for 20 minutes which means I haven’t done the favor my mom asked for. I want to become better at doing things the first time around. My last area to grow in is to plan things ahead. When I’m with my friends, they try to go with the flow. Most of the time that it happens, we don’t get as far as we want to at the end of the day. So, I want to suggest to plan out what to do throughout the day because if the plan changes, we have a second plan which means we’re using our time wisely.…
