At Bainton Construction it is part of my (job) role to establish a safe and supportive working environment through a number of different methods. When a new group or student arrives at the centre, all must first pass through an induction. This is vital to every new starter. During the induction I would point out all the relevant information for the centre. This will include what to do in case of a fire and who the first aider is. We also have specific areas for food and drink to be prepared and consumed.
As a joinery tutor, we have specific rules in place for the joinery shop. Firstly no learners are allowed in the area without safety boots. We also have safety rules in place when using power tools. These include wearing safety glasses and ear protection. As a tutor, I work alongside the learners to give good advice and constant support by using practical demonstrations. Constant praise and encouragement is a great way to build the learners’ confidence within the learning environment. I make myself very approachable to the learners so they feel that they can ask me for advice on their work and feel that I have a very good relationship with the learners I work alongside.

In my (job) role, it is very important to promote appropriate behaviour and respect for each other, as most of the learners at the centre have learning difficulties. This again relates to the induction day. All learners are constantly made aware that inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated due to the environment they are working in
