My Tutoring Experience
Knowledge is key to each and every individuals success. Being able to impart knowledge can be challenging since every one learns at their own pace. Which is why when I tutor my goal is to ensure that I explain things in various ways to ensure understanding. I want students to feel confident and be able to work on their own.
My tutoring experience dates back to my high school days where I tutored classmates and middle school students. Until recently I was a tutor through my university from which I graduated in July with a B.S. in Biology with a Chemistry minor. When I'm not tutoring or working I enjoy reading a good book, swimming, or watching movies with friends and family.

To do this the tutor has to identify needs, plan & design the course accordingly, deliver correctly, asses students to ensure comprehension and evaluate teaching methods and effectiveness of the material delivered. The tutor is responsible for promoting inclusion, equality and diversity and ensuring the course is delivered in a way to encompass all this whilst meeting all learners’ needs.…

Roles, responsibilities and boundaries are continuous qualities within my role as a tutor which are constantly assessed and reflected upon throughout the teaching/training cycle. According to Francis and Gould “The role of a teacher is not just to teach but to also be an evaluator, subject leader, manager of learning resources, curriculum developer, union member, personal tutor, assessor, information and advice giver, administrator, liaison with external body, record keeper, interviewer, verifier, role model and overall to help learners to gain a qualification.” The Teaching/Training cycle supports this theory by providing a structures process in which tutors can follow ensuring that all learners receive the best and consistent approach when teaching any given subject.…

There are teachers all around the world. They may not have a big class, or work in a school, or have a shiny new apple on their desk, but they want people to understand the lesson that they are providing. A lesson that they have already experienced in their one life that they want us to try and avoid as much as possible. Making our…

The little girl that I tutored was named Helen. She is a Hispanic student in first grade. She is very quiet and I had a hard time getting information from her. But what she did tell me was that she lives with her mother and father and she said she had siblings but I couldn’t get a clear answer from her as to how many. From what she said, I think she has several brothers. She said that her father doesn’t stay with them all the time, so I don’t know if her parents are divorced or if he just goes away to work sometimes. A lot of the Hispanics that I know from home do tend to work in industries that require them to travel a lot. Her parents are from Mexico, her mother speaks fluent English but her father only speaks a little bit of English. She has just as good, if not better English than the rest of the children in her class, so there is no language barrier. She is bilingual so she speaks English and Spanish.…

Every week at a nearby elementary school, I tutor children from kindergarten to sixth grade as a part of their YMCA after school care program. Typically, I work with the same group of students to finish their math homework, work on a project for social studies, or help them sound out new words. By watching them thrive in a positive environment and develop a love for learning, they constantly teach me new things. After being at school all day and dealing with ample amounts of stress, their innocent and bright minds cause me to ground myself and realize what is at the core of all of my hard work in academics: a thirst for knowledge. Perhaps the most rewarding thing has been witnessing them improve dramatically, such as being able to read a word with ease that we sounded out multiple times the previous week, with a smile on their face and a new sense of confidence and accomplishment. Steadfastly teaching them that by working hard and not giving up they can reach their goals, it leaves me with such a proud feeling when I see them putting it into action. Tutoring has been a two-way street: the children have impacted my life in a positive and meaningful way just like I have impacted…

Yes, last week was really difficult for me! I'm pursuing my degree in nursing through Arizona College and doing my prerequests through Keiser University, so I was able to take advantage of the free tutoring available at Arizona College. I put my kids in daycare for the week and I was at the Arizona College campus from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. studying and being tutored. I feel that I understand the concepts that we are studying each week, however the math portion is what I'm having a hard time with since I havent taken a math class in about ten years. I feel that I'm able to do the problems but they are taking me a long time to complete and since the time frame for the test is fifty minutes I run out of time and I'm left guessing on some of the…

I believe that I would be a good candidate for an assistantship for several reasons. First and most importantly, I have had the privilege to work with diverse populations. Most recently I had the opportunity to hold an internship at Penn Highlands Hospital in DuBois as a social worker in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This role allowed me to work closely with mainly parents of NICU patients but also expanded to patients of all kinds throughout the hospital. Being a NICU social worker your main priority is to offer a stable support system to your patients and their families during their stay.…
