Day Care Observation
At my church, Fallbrook Church, I work at their daycare as a volunteer day care assistant. I take care of children as young as 0 months old to 4 years old. I prepare their meals, sanitize their toys and the tables and entertain the children with songs and games. I have been working as a volunteer assistant since I was a freshmen in highschool and I plan on continuing to volunteer after I graduate. Volunteering at the daycare allows me to become more adapted to the behavior of young children and how to discipline a child properly as well care for it.
At school, I was a volunteer English tutor for my underclassmen for a year. I assisted in correcting their assignments and giving advice for essays. I made copies of assignments for the teacher

Each year in November I volunteer at The Basket Brigade. We assemble boxes full of food for the less fortunate to have for Thanksgiving/the holiday season. After assembling the boxes we each take 4-5 and deliver them to anyone who has requested them. This opportunity is very eye opening, it shows you how much a little kindness goes and how thankful people are that you care. I have also volunteered at Feed My Starving Children for the last few years. This organization allows you to help pack food to send to children across the…

When it comes down to choosing the best childcare option for your child, the first factor that most parents look at is: what that particular child needs. Now, there is nothing wrong with that, but there are a number of factors that needs to be considered prior to making that final choice. The decision of whether to send your child to a commercial daycare center or an in-home family childcare should depend on more than just the need of the child. Parents need to also consider environment, cost, certification, daily schedules, and provider to child ratios.…

Volunteer organizations I have been a part of are the Night in the Country Volunteer parking. My duties involved taking a paint marker and tagging the cars with their campsite number so they knew where to park their trailers and or trucks. I also had to do my best to answer any questions that people had on where certain places were. The second organization I have participated in is the Vineyard Fellowship Night of Lights. This event took place on Halloween night so I had to dress up in a costume. I had to operate a game booth such as fishing for candy and musical chairs. Finally the last organization I was a part of was the Vineyard Fellowship Community Christmas Dinner. For this event I had to help set everything up and prepare the food the…

I volunteered at Texas Humane Heroes, a local animal welfare organization that gives a homeless dog or cat a chance of finding home. It is a nonprofit organization that benefits from the involvement of volunteers. This was a very unique experience because I got to work with a lot of different volunteers and staff members. There were different volunteering opportunities from foster volunteering to helping out around the place. I helped around the place with other volunteers. We cleaned the dog and cat cages and washed their bowls. It wasn’t fun to pick up their waste, but we got to play with the puppies and the kittens. We also had to greet customers and inform them about the cats and the dogs that they had up there. In the afternoon, we had to walk the dogs. So many volunteers and I, took the dogs out.…

I attended Head Start as a student. Three years after graduated from Head Start, my mom began working for them. She started out as a cleaning lady and after a few years moved up the chain to cook and then eventually a teacher. So, since I was about 7 years old I was volunteering. I loved being around the children, the teachers and just the setting in general. When I was old enough, I also began working at Head Start as a teacher’s aide. I later went to work for the University of Idaho Children’s Center, where I figured out that I wanted to work with children as a career.…

In order to apply for National Spanish Honors Society (NSHS) last year, I was required to compile several service hours in which I had to help others through Spanish. I decided to tutor my fellow classmates and even teach them some concepts they were very unsure about. Through tutoring for several weeks I was able to attain all of my minutes but I was also able to help others understand the language better. I am also in the process of applying this year for NSHS, and I plan on tutoring and volunteering once more.…

I recognise this assessment is ongoing and involved weekly observations to identify progress and monitor the services. I made a record of each visit and reported any concerns to my manager (SW one, Walker 2011). I noted at times my intervention did not improve the situation as it took some time for the services to be allocated. Upon reflection, I could have been more open with N at the start about my concerns as her feedback reflected an inconsistency in my approach. Kemshall (2002) argues that social work is predominantly concerned with handling and assessing risk, as opposed to focusing on social need and justice. It should be highlighted that N may have feel structurally oppressed due to her mental health and not being appreciated for the challenges she is facing (Thompson 2007). I now recognise I may have been focusing on the immediate risk in the home and not realising the underlying cause of concern, her mental health. However, I was concerned at the potential neglect the children were facing and it was decided…

I set up an appointment with the Kids Club daycare at 9:45 am on November 4th to observe for an hour of toddler classroom who were between three and four years old. The principle gave me a warm greeting and took me to the class and introduced me to the teachers and the children. Everyone there made me feel welcomed. I chose a place where I can sit, observe and write my note as well as to be away from children's sight. In the classroom there were five boys, two girls, and two teachers Ms. Nadia and Ms. Emma. The classroom itself was large and spacious. The classroom is very appropriate for children this age and it has many interesting areas such as a blocks and art area, and children taped some of their previous work in the art area. The color of the class is bright and has interesting posters like calendars with the name of children’s birthdays. Also. There is a toys area that has toys suitable for both boys and girls like cars, animals, and doll. There is a reading area with a little amount of children’s books and stories in reachable…

Working in the field of Human Services with people who are clinically diagnosed with mental illness and substance abuse, who are seeking employment from an office setting is entirely different from working with people with developmental disabilities in their homes. As my place of employment provides services to both population in different settings, I had to observe the difference of supporting the individuals in a home setting. I reviewed the schedule provided for the day, data collected (that had to be recorded throughout the second shift of my presence), interviewed with shift staff and manager, and the residents of the group home. From this experience, it is clear that working in this field while in an office setting, is completely different…

I come from a big family where I am the second oldest so when I am not in school or working, I am most likely helping out at home. However, on my free time I like to either read, hang out with friends, practice my Swahili language or volunteer. I volunteer at this Center for learning in my neighborhood where I help younger English language Learner students with their homework. Their ages vary from 8 years old to 13 years old.…
