According to 3M, social responsibility is defined as engaging key stakeholders in dialogue and taking action to improve 3M’s sustainability performance.
For engaging the stakeholders, the assessment conducted by 3M includes both the significant sustainability impacts on 3M and the most important issues that concern their stakeholders. A quantitative, stakeholder-driven approach was used to determine and prioritize the key sustainability issues for 3M’s internal and external stakeholders that could be tracked over time and helped in providing rigor in driving strategy internally.
