Implementing compatible computer software is one way to ensure quality care. Patients are often admitted through units and outpatient clinics which use systems non-compatible with the admitting unit. For example, patients are often admitted to the Burn ICU directly from the outpatient wound clinic. These patients are required to go to the E.R for admission to the hospital. The computer system differs from the clinic to the burn unit. Many of the patients will decline to go to the E.R or leave the E.R due to long wait times. A compatible software system can make a direct admission to the burn unit possible which can lead to patient compliance and improved patient…

In order to begin to select and acquire an information system a project steering committee will need to be chosen to oversee the project. A Project manager will be appointed to lead the committee. The team will be responsible for determining the process of implementation and conduct research in regards to which type of information system best suits the organization’s needs. All health care processes within the organization must be identified and standards must be set for each of them. The committee will also define the projects objectives and determine the scope of analysis needed to evaluate the organization’s system requirements. The marketplace should be screened and vendors should be evaluated. Once the system goals have been identified the committee will prioritize those goals. A request for information form will need to be created and distributed. Options should be examined to choose which method of acquiring the system would be best, an application service provider, or to build an in-house system by contracting a system developer. The organization should receive proposals from the analysis of vendors; they will need to be evaluated. Evaluation criteria will be identified in order to hold vendor demonstrations, visit…

“New York Freelance Technology is a web based organization affiliated with Montana Freelance Technology and GMR Web Services that continues to give you quality hosting at an affordable cost.” (New York Freelance Technology, 2011) Not only does NY Freetech perform web specific tasks, they also handle numerous person to person tasks such as custom computer building, videography and DVD authoring. Their web related tasks include web design, web development, graphics design, web hosting and DNS (domain name system). One thing NY Freetech does not have is a support forum for their customers. To contact customer service, currently you have to email them and wait for a reply. What is needed is a support forum. Customers or prospect customers can post in the forums and ask questions and the administrators can answer the questions. If other customers or users know the answer to the question, they can also answer. That will help the customers questions get answered faster. Upon reviewing the company website, I noticed there was no support forum. There is a small FAQ (frequently asked questions) but no forum. The personnel involved in the project have a certain role they must play, the steps of the program development cycle must be followed and the project should be performed in a modular fashion. For every task performed in any organization, personnel involved have roles they must play.…

Central Community Medical Center (CCMC) is a 600-bed urban hospital located in the downtown of a major metropolitan area. The medical center is one of five hospitals belonging to the Midwest Healthcare systems. The medical center is a full-service teaching hospital with services ranging from medical, surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, wound care, trauma care, and heart care, to outpatient clinics and services. CCMC has an average of 15,000 inpatient discharges each year and approximately 90,000 outpatient visits per year. Up until two years ago, Central Community Medical Center’s HIM department operated as a traditional paper-based health records department. An administrative decision was made to implement an electronic health record. CCMC is the second hospital within the Midwest Healthcare system to implement the EHR; therefore, the vendor selection was already established. The Healthcare system decided that all hospitals would use the same vendor to facilitate the interoperability and consistency of the EHR between facilities.…

Every time a patient receives professional health care in a physician’s office, hospital outpatient facility or ambulatory surgical center(ASC), the provider must code and create a claim to be paid, whether by a commercial payer, the patient or CMS(The Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services)” (American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), 2010). A medical coder’s main job is to look over patient’s records and other information to code and classify a patient’s diagnosis or procedure.
