Management of leadership development can be defined as the ability to influence people successfully at various levels to obtain desired results.
A first line supervisor’s main responsibility is to get the work completed and oversee the worker taskforce. Hence the organization needs to focus on the following key areas of operational management which starts with effective recruitment. The supervisors must be then trained and motivated to perform day to day supervision effectively. They must be communicated with about their growth path and fair performance appraisals must be conducted (Management Systems).
At middle management level, the responsibility comprises direct reporting and coordination of work amongst functional areas. In that regard, the leadership development sphere should encompass honing skills like management, planning, financial management and conflict management. The middle management should be good team builders and should be capable of being a good team leader.
Senior management requires special organizational development skills. Leaders at this level can be developed by focusing on the development of skills like organizational planning, strategic planning, cultural management and strategic leadership in senior managers. They should be provided with trainings focused on these skills. The top management should ensure that they are being good, kind and ethical leaders with regard to their subordinates.
The President/ CEO has the role of developing the vision for the concern as a whole. He plans transitions to the next level of growth of the organization. Hence the key to developing a good leader at this stage is to develop transition management skills.
