9.2 Cost Minimization Of Lan Resource Sharing Case Study
9.1 Importance of Resource sharing:

There are many times when we need to print some work from different computers, use some data that might be on another computer, or communicate with someone using another computer. One way of doing this is to save the data that we need to print, use or send onto a floppy disk and walk over to another computer, log in and load the data from our disk.

On the other hand, if the computers and printers are connected together with cable and they are able to communicate with each other then we have a network - can do all this without having to walk anywhere.

One of the benefits of a network is that it allows groups of computer users to share data, share software and even share hardware (such as a printer or a

These messages can have pictures, sounds, or data included with them. Expensive things (such as printers) can be shared by all the computers on the network without having to buy a different peripheral for each computer. Everyone on the network can use the same data. This avoids problems where some users may have older information than others.

9.2 Cost Minimization of LAN resource sharing:
The cost can be minimized by sharing Expensive devices such as laser printers or scanners. When we share the peripherals among some workstation without buy a different peripheral for each computer, the cost is ultimately minimized. Even for file storage, we can use a central file server to store all files instead of having them in each workstation.

9.3 Printer Sharing:
Printers can be shared across the network. For example, a high speed high quality printer can be shared by the entire office, allowing us to reduce cost while increase quality of

With this we can reduce cost too. We can use a single server by many clients.

Computer files can be stored centrally, therefore multiple staff can work on one single copy and responsibility can be delegated. Store computer files on one place will also make data backup easier, more reliable and cost efficient.

For example, we can take a file server. A file server is a computer that is uses as storage device and dedicated to storing files and data. Any user on the network, who has the permission, can store files or data on that server. And other user have access there. They can view it and can copy to their workstation. Even we can make an example with printer server. A print server is a device that manages the printing commands. Any user on the network, who has the permission, can use that printer. So, by one Print server we can serve a few numbers of clients.

9.5 Scanner Sharing:
Scanners can be shared across the network. For example, a high speed high quality Scanner can be shared by the entire office, allowing us to reduce cost while increase quality of output. We can use the same method of Printer sharing for scanner

Having a centralized storage/retrieval system, also helps to secure the information being shared across the network. This also creates efficiency as only the server needs to be backed up, as opposed to having to secure many individual and independent workstations. In addition to…
