It was ridiculously hard to get married back in the 1700s but after years I met my beloved Abigail Gilbert at the age of 25 and we wed in 1772, it’s been history since. Months after our wedding I got the news that I was going to be a father of a boy and the name Daniel Junior came to mind, later in 1773 he was finally born. Years passed and I became father to more children including two beautiful girls. We eventually had to go down the road to Shutesbury in the west so I was able to join the militia there because I wasn’t able to stay as a member in the Brookfield Militia. Moving was hard but the outcome was great because after all my hard work in drilling I was known as Sergeant Daniel Shays and later on turned to Lieutenant Daniel Shays.…

The 40 developmental assets are experiences and behaviors that shape a young person's adulthood. These assets will lead to how a person grows up and what their future will consist of. The more assets someone has, the more likely they are to have a productive life. These assets also apply to people, who aren’t necessarily actual beings. In the brief novel The Pigman, John Conlan experiences numerous amounts of these assets. This story tells a part of the troubled teenage lives of John and his best friend Lorraine Jensen, and how meeting Mr. Pignati has a large influence on their lives. They deal with the majority of the assets, however a few are more apparent in the story than others. John will become a successful adult because although…
Piggy the tritagonist in the novel “The Lord of the Flies”, has a name that has many different meanings. The most stereotypical and assumed meaning of his name would be “fat” or “obese”and it is known that many people who are obese or fat in books are usually discriminated against. His name gives insight into his character since his character is left out a lot. An example of Piggy feeling left out is when Jack says “Shut up.”(Golding 11) and does not allow him to talk. This makes him feel powerless and unworthy to be in their society. This also occurs in other books such as “Freak the Mighty”. Freak the Mighty are discriminated against because of their disabilities and the way the look. They are considered to be outcasts just as Piggy is.…
I was very excited, I was going to get a new guinea pig. My old one had died of old age, and the new one I was getting was just a few months old. I had bought him a few days ago at the York Fair, but had to wait until the fair was over. My dad drove me to the fair, and we went in to get him.…
Today I was told that the island looks like it’s uninhabited but we’re all getting hungry and have to look for food. I’m getting pretty hungry myself but I know we’re going to need shelter and food to survive on this island. Jack found a piglet earlier and tried to chase him down for food for us but didn’t get it. He seemed really mad about not being to get the piglet. He’s not a friendly person at all.…

Day 1- Well, we are lost on this island. After we came to, there was a noise. What a noise it was, it was like the horn of a ship: “ a deep harsh note boomed under the palms” (Golding 17).…
2. What does Piggy’s speech (about Jack) reveal about his lack of understanding of life on the island?…
He comes up with countless ideas as to how to improve life on the island and the way to go about doing that. After the fire started by the hunters consumes most of the jungle, Piggy emphasizes that “The first thing we ought to have made was shelters down there by the beach” (45). In the beginning of the book, as Ralph finds the conch, it is Piggy that instructs Ralph in how to blow on the conch and make the sound that makes Ralph the “man with the megaphone” (7). More importantly is the role that Piggy plays as an adult voice on the island, a voice that the boys grow to resent. “‘Grownups know things,’ said Piggy. ‘They ain’t afraid of the dark. They’d meet and have tea and discuss. Then things ‘ud be all right” (94). It is this adult view of life and how he asserts his opinion that shapes the way Ralph ultimately begins to think and govern, and in a certain light, why he fails. Piggy believes that rules should be strictly followed, and this totalitarian view is shown when he tries to stress the power of the conch when speaking before Jack on Castle Rock. It is this effort to remain true to the ideals that the island was founded on, his ideals that were formed from intelligence and reason, that get him…
In today’s world kids see a lot before they ever reach Jr. High and High school. While there are three death scenes two of which are fairly graphic this movie is not the worst a 15 to 18 year old has ever watched. Plus the only truly gory scene is Piggy’s death because it is more or less shown than the death of Simon or the death of _____________. If it were my classroom I would show it just to give an example of how charismatic leaders can gain power and steam roll over smaller contenders or how charismatic leaders with a backing of the people can do truly grotesque atrocities. Either way this movie is fine to be shown in a Jr. High or High school classroom mostly because now days the graphics of this movie would be considered lame in their…
The Pigman, written by Paul Zindel, is about two high school students who were playing a simple game that turned into something much more. The objective was to call a random stranger, and stay on the phone for as long as possible. The group became proficient at this game as they played it very often. Lorraine just so happened to call one Mr. Pignati, a widowed man who was still as joyful a person as anyone could know. Lorraine pretended to be a charity worker, and Mr. Pignati agreed to give her and John 10 dollars if they stopped…
