A Character Analysis Of The Film Vertigo
Great character analysis, Denise. I most definitely agree with you that Michel is, thus far, one of the worst characters we have seen. I suppose the fact that he physically abuses both women, or perhaps just Christina, in this film makes him the worst we have seen so far. Scottie, was pretty horrible himself, however, he “only” verbally abused Madeleine/Judy.
The scene where he makes Christina eat rotten fish in front of everyone is in the top five of the most repulsive scenes I had to watch, along with the sequence in Vertigo where Scottie gives Judy her “makeover”. The fact that nobody at the table, nor in the dining room said a word, besides Nicole, shows the audience what kind of impact Michel’s character had on every single person in

Based solely on the novel of Divergent a movie was made lasting two hours and nine minutes. This isn't a short span of time for a movie yet, could it be pure coincidence that they left out some details. Could it have been some of the effects were to gruesome for a film rated PG-13? Or were these actions of leaving the details out more purposeful? Does it give the movie somewhat of a different meaning than the original script of the book? So it brings into question, who wrote it better the writer of the novel Veronica Roth, or the director of the film Neil Burger?…

The final part of Perkowski’s analysis outline is evaluating the social and psychological role of the vampire for the time period it was originally intended for. Since this film was released during the 1980’s it is viewed as being in line with many people’s beliefs at the time that family values were declining, as divorce rates were high, and people believed that these values needed to be re-established in society. Additionally, people believed that this problem could be blamed on and was due to the hippie generation, which is why the film also contains many references to hippies, including the music Michael and Sam’s mother Lucy listens to and the marijuana plant that their grandfather has in his kitchen. Michael, Sam, and their mother are…

The character I dislike the strongest would be Elmer Foster. I believe he is uppity and lacks common sense. Although Elmer is the “man of the house” I disbelieve he wears the “pants” in the relationship between him and Elsie. I strongly believe Elmer likes to always present himself as right but mostly always is wrong. The event of the Fosters could have simply been avoided if Elmer wasn’t so pigheaded towards his wife. In the end Elmer comes to the conclusion that bad choices produce bad outcomes, and this was a bad outcome.…

The average trip to the theater will indulge the lesser senses, relaxing the mind while also discovering the storyline as the film progresses. When approaching a film with an analytical mindset it is important to have a deeper more developed thought process. Small details within a movie can prove to have extreme importance to the storyline sometimes having multiple meanings. While analytically watching the film The Departed it is apparent that the director Martin Scorsese uses an immense amount of symbolism along with character representation to develop the storyline. The use of animal clothing to represent the alpha male is a use of symbolism within the film that is a reoccurring. Another use of symbolism can be found in the shot of the Massachusetts State Building which entails the desire of a more lawful existence and the shot is also a reoccurring image throughout the film. The question of “what is loyalty” is a big idea that the director develops with the use of several characters along with meaningful dialogue. In Martin Scorsese’s The Departed the theme of loyalty is expressed along with the symbolism of the state building and animal clothing.…

Guillermo del Toro contrasts two worlds with mise-en-scene, the romantic world compared to the realistic world. He accomplishes this with a distinguished use of lighting as well as objects, changing the styles based of which world he aims to portray. He paints reality has unforgiving and harsh while the romantic world receives a more fantastic, lighthearted tint. He also uses German Expressionistic qualities of mirroring internal landscapes of the characters with the external settings.…
