A Class Divided Summary
After viewing the video “A Class Divided” Mrs. Elliott had her third grade class perform an experiment on what it felt like to live with discrimination. She had the class separated by eye color and were given a set of rules on there were and weren’t able to do. On the first day of the experiment the students were told that blued-eyed people are better than brown-eyed people. The brown eyed people were also given collars that symbolized they were the inferior race. Many brown eyed kids were shocked and disappointed that there was a class difference between them. Whenever Mrs. Elliott told that the brown eyed kids were dumber, slower, and bad the blue eyed started laughing not only that but the brown eyed kids felt sadden on how this is what the whole class thinks of them. However whenever she said that the blue eyed kids were smarter, better, and given extra minutes of recess many faces gleamed whit happiness. …show more content…
Elliott did the same experiment with adults. One white privileged woman mad a remark saying that whites face some sort of discrimination. Another woman challenged her by saying no, whites don’t face any type of discrimination whites get everything basically handed to them. They wake up white, with a job in a nice community. However when your African American you wake up black and have to face with discrimination. She also made a statement saying if you’re white you’re alright. Both experiments experienced the same behavior the ones that had the collars felt submissive to the superiors. They were both known as dumb slow unmannered people. They had to be assimilated because no one wants to be the inferior race it’s not
