A Comparison Of Space Travel In The Mars And The Martian Chronicles
Space travel, lonely, exciting, disturbing, the human mind has an overload of various feelings and information that the trip would be seemingly overwhelming. Though, one can understand all the problems with space travel, the desire of space travel still stands. Space travel alone sounds terrifying. One who is overwhelmed with a 24 hour energy needs someone to be around. To be alone, would be viewed as boring though, the reality seems like a lesson of independence. Eventually, one would come to understand and take the mission/missions as a lesson and learning experience to appreciate earth and all the items and living things upon it. Space travel with others, strangers or known, would become interesting but in the same sense lonely. Though, with the right people, this experience is interesting and a way to become closer. With loved ones, you become closer as well as farther apart. The isolation causes one to move forward in learning more about that particular person but, one can also become distant because the two beings now know too much about each other. Though in some instances, …show more content…
The two books also bring up characters that miss their home planet; earth is this world that humans crave. “People can’t anticipate how much they’ll miss the natural world until they are deprived of it” - page 57. In The Martian Chronicles, humans went to Mars for a whole new start, yet ironically, humans made Mars with all the comforts of earth. This crave might not always be there in the beginning but, eventually it will return, haunting your mind until one finally goes crazy. “He and his companions spent a couples of days just wandering around and staring in awe at flowers and trees” - page 57. Is there anything in this world worth dying for? Is it worth it to risk everything over and over again for something that may never even be reached? This question is an essential part of The Hero’s Journey and has been tried and tested in both Homer’s The Odyssey and 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke. Being able to see the similarities between these stories is imperative to better understand the role of the Hero’s Journey. The four most beneficial sections that relate the two stories are supernatural aid, the belly of the whale, atonement with the father, and the ultimate boon.…

Sometimes when people think about the calming sound of a night-time melody, the catchy beat of a popular song, or simply the words in a poem that captures how you feel and you can perfectly relate to. What comes to mind when we mention a poem? Usually what people think or what people’s thoughts go to, are emotions and rhyme. I think it takes a little more of each person’s perspective into the situation, not only the writer’s but also the reader’s perspective, which is what gives that extra spark to the piece. The literary element that is the most important to bring a poem to life is imagery; it would help the reader…

Three million B.C. The gunpowder for a smashing evolutionary hit was amassing for a long time, but the necessary spark came from an outside help, which soon set the whole world ablaze. From this heated inferno, came the most proficient species ever to grace the planet. And now man has to be prepared for what comes next. Arthur C. Clarke skillfully proves the point that 'truth is stranger than fiction' in his remarkable book - 2001: A Space Odyssey. He also carefully examines the point that in spite of their intelligence and curious mind, humans lack the capacity to be a complete species on their own. Without the assistance of concerned alien species humans would never had climbed the evolutionary ladder. Devoid of the outside help they wouldn't had escaped their self made prison, explored the enormity of the universe and known their place in it.…

Today, many Americans constantly worry about the effect of their eating habits on their weight and health. However, for much of the nineteenth century, most Americans were rarely concerned with the nutritional quality of their meals, and instead focused on eating as much as possible. According to Harvey Levenstein, author of Revolution at the Table: The Transformation of the American Diet, the inception of present-day eating habits has its roots in the “eating revolution,” which occurred between the 1880s and 1930s. At the turn of the twentieth century, the American middle class began to eat much more “economically and healthily,” than they had in the past. Levenstein attributes this change in food habits to both economic and social factors,…

The first shots of the Revolution rang out April 19 1775 at Lexington green. Reports say the British fired first killing eight patriots. I believe these reports to be true. There was a lot of controversy surrounding this, since none of us were there, no one can be certain on who fired first. Evidence shows the British fired first. What does a planet need to have in order to support life? Earth is unique in our solar system because it is the only planet that is supporting life. Some scientists go so far as to say that the Earth is a “perfect planet” because it has features that are the perfect environment for living organisms; these features include our atmosphere, water, and a single moon. Earth is also in a place in our solar system where the Sun gives off the right amount of energy to drive the life. The distance from the Earth to the Sun determines how much of that heat we receive. If it weren’t for our ozone layer and Earth’s magnetic field, harmful rays would penetrate our surface and life would be exterminated. Everything the Earth has to offer us is balanced perfectly to keep life continuous.…
