The amount of information that GPS, Google Maps, and Skyhook provide is astonishing. Not only is the information based on the places people go to is being taken but data of the people is being documented. Companies are profiting off of the amount of information they consuming from tracking the people. Tracking the people is extremely similar to 1984. In the article Our Surveillance Society: What Orwell and Kafka Might Say by Alan Greenblatt explains, “...smartphones and widespread surveillance cameras no conversations or movement…considered private,” (Greenblatt,74). The words from Greenblatt is important because it describes how much technology is being used in modern society and the minimal privacy one has using technology. Due to society relying on technology, the government has more access to gaining information of the citizens in an effortless form. Smartphones are similar to telescreens because both can hear and see what the citizens are doing or saying.
