A $ D On Spotify Analysis
I plugged my Beats headphones into my laptop and streamed A$AP Rocky’s, “L$D,” on Spotify. The song begins with a series of notes played on what seems to be a guitar. Right away it creates a hazy and mellow mood. The three notes are repeated on a slow tempo, slowing down the ambience that the song creates. These three repeated notes are panned mainly on the right side. This unevenness disorientates the song, unbalancing the mood, the notes have not yet kicked in and taken over both ears. With the release of a relaxing, de-stressed breath, the panning transitions to the middle and the final note is vividly heard on both ears from 0:13 to 015—time is stretched, slowly resonating to the tone of the final note. After this final note finishes, …show more content…
Whispering is panned on the left side. You hear “acid” slowly whispered, again, on the left side at 1:42. Beginning at 1:39, A$AP’s voice begins to get a little faster and is cut more frequently. His voice is not surrounded by many different sounds at this point. You can, again, hear the heavy bass more clearly. It is playing the same tune that it first introduced. At 1:50, a breath is taken and it echoes for about two seconds. This breath really creates a sense of space. It flows to the background where it slowly dissolves. The whisper dissolves into an empty sound that takes over the song, only to be broken up by the slow sound of …show more content…
Here, A$AP does not sing anymore, but another voice begins to recite a series lyrics that begin with “I’ve been.” A familiar “ooooo” also reappear during this part. The bass in the set of drums, in the back ground is sharp and noticeable. The elctroinc “yeah” is also carried on into this phase of the song. In this part of the song, though, the electronic voice expands from just “yeah,”, you can hear it shouting words that cannot quite be made out. The panning of these words switch back in forth, left to right.
At 2:41, A$AP’s voice returns and the song switches rhythms. A$AP is singing at a higher pitch in this part, but it still maintains its mellow and soft tone. He sings faster and is accompanied by a faster set of drums in the background. This combination, along with translucent sounds in the back, builds the momentum in the song. This part I would describe as building up to the climax. The beats in the background push the song up to a high

It’s rock music, so of course it’s going to be a little loud! Also, throughout the entire live version there are a lot more accents put into the music. The guitar does have two solos during the recorded version, but they are completely different once being compared to the two live version solos. The last solo, the guitarist is punching and leaning into a lot of the notes to give a greater deal of emphasis on his performance and his skill level.…

Also resorting to a bass intro, the vibrant “Columbus Circle Stop” is my favorite of the 11-track list. Cannon’s lick serves as the basis for the A section groove and matching melodies find poise over the piano accompaniment, which almost reproduces the sound of a train on the tracks. Scalding argumentations arise when Irby and Pelt activate the call-response mode, also encouraging the rhythm section to participate in their continual exchanges.…

When a song is as heavily covered as Fats Domino’s “Ain’t That A Shame” from his album Rock and Rollin with Fats Domino you know that there is something special about it. With recording artists such as Pat Boone, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and even the 1970s rock group, Cheap Trick recording the song many people know at least one version. However the original version has a special something about it that helps it stand out from the many covers. The song has an enticing hook, interesting historical context, and is an earworm that was with me for several days after I first heard the song.…

The sound throughout this scene is mostly non-diegetic, a soundtrack piece, however diegetic sound can be heard in a discussion between Ricky and Shea. Ambient/diegetic sound is noted during the vandalism of Wisdom’s car, as well as laughter and skates from Ricky’s shots. An upbeat track is used to establish a sense of pace to the scene, while keeping up with the action of the sequence.…

Throughout Zeds Dead’s performance at Ritchie Coliseum, another sense was thoroughly engaged in addition to the auditory element of lyrics and synthetic instrumentals: vision. Zeds Dead performance had several marked features of visuals that exemplified the sensualistic nature of electronic dance music. Accordingly, “…such syntheses and modulations are carried out in the ‘laboratory’ of the club, where in most cases the pitch-black darkness is impregnated by techno music, a few lights, the occasional strobe and artifcial smoke.” (Vitos, 2). To typify this characteristic of EDM, Zeds Dead included many multicolored beams of light rotating over the cloud and flashing lights typically when the beat dropped, in an otherwise dark room. Additionally, there were designed visuals in the background, typically of a “trippy” rotating vortex,…

An iconic example of modal jazz. Improvisation makes up most of the piece, but the riffs from the rhythm section truly set up the soloist for great solos. The exchange between the bass and the rest of the band. The antecedent phrase is played by the bass, which plays a rising line of notes. Following, the piano and or the rest of the band respond with two chords moving downwards in response to the bass. These chords are a whole step apart and consist of the 1, 4th , m 7th , m 3rd , and 5th . The final chord of the phrase ends with a borrowed chord , establishing the harmonic middle of the…

    Raiders of the Lost Ark

I have chosen to evaluate a scene from Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark where Indiana and Sallah uncover the Well of Soles where the lost ark is hidden. We open the scene at 57:03 with Indiana leading a team of diggers up a hill to the spot where they will dig for the ark. As the scene opens we hear the diegetic sounds of the diggers and commotion taking place in the background. We also hear non-diegetic music that will be referred to as the “ark theme” playing as Indiana climbs the hill and has his men start to dig for the ark. The slow and sort of creepy tone that makes up the ark theme reminds us of the continuing quest for the ark and also that the ark may very well be close by. At 58:00, the non-diegetic music briefly cuts for about four seconds but then picks up once again as Indiana turns around to whistle for his men to start digging. As the digging begins, the music picks up and gets louder and louder. The rise in the non-diegetic music builds the suspense and excitement of the scene and foreshadows the big discovery that lies ahead. At 58:26 the scene dissolves into a shot of the dig site from afar. Although the non-diegetic music ended, we pick up with the diegetic music or sound of the tune that the workers hum as they dig. We can also hear the diegetic sounds of the wind howling and we see the sun setting in the background showing us that a cold night is approaching. The coloring from the sun set gives the shot a feel that something great is about to happen yet provides a sense of mystery for those who don’t know what is to come. In this shot we cannot see a detailed view of our characters, rather just the shadows of the digging men and Indy. We are easily able to pick out Indy despite only being able to see character shadows simply because we see him put on his trademark hat which he is famous for wearing. At 58:44 the shot cuts to yet…

Everything stopped, everything a statue all around me. frozen in time. or at least that’s how it felt. I looked around, people staring at me, waiting. I wanted to talk but I couldn't say anything. I felt lost. I could only remember how this all came to be. It was a Monday morning, I’m walking to class, mumbling freestyle raps to myself. As I walk, I accidentally bump into a group of guys, falling as I turn to see them laughing. “Come on, Biggie Smalls! You should watch your step,” One of them said as I stood up, noticing them all start surrounding me. “Let's see if lil’ B.I.G. here can actually spit.” The same guy who I bumped into said, rolling up his sleeves. I could tell he’s the main one considering how the others follow him around.…

In the songs “Jolene” by Dolly Parton and “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood, we are shown two women’s take on infidelity. One perspective shows us a woman’s vengeance, and her reaction to being betrayed, but does so in a way that is light-hearted and slightly comical. The other paints a much more personal and vulnerable picture, it’s Dolly’s plea to the “other woman”. Both of these perspectives are easily relatable to the listener, because we have all felt broken, we have all felt vengeful, and we have all felt the breath of fresh air after you pick yourself up.…

The song “Weightless” by Marconi Union is stress relieving. This song starts out at 60 BPM, or 60 Beats per Minute and gradually decreases to 50 BPM, or 50 Beats per Minute. Much like the song “Someone like you” which is 68 BPM, a little faster than “Weightless.” While you listen to “Weightless”, your heart rate also decreases to match the slow rhythm of the song. This process is called entrainment and it takes at least 5 minutes to occur, which is why the song is about eight minutes long. As your heart rate decreases, you become calmer and less anxious because the blood is being pumped around your body at a slower and calmer rate. This song also has no repeating pattern, which is stress relieving because it allows your brain to shut off, because it is no longer trying to predict what will happen next in this song. The song also features random chimes and chirps, to further add to the sense of relaxation and trance like state. The final element of this song is random, piercing buddhist chant like melodies, which further add to the trance like state that is experienced while listening to this song.…

The digital music industry has over the last decade developed significantly. From LP’s, CD’s, illegal downloading until now; Digital music streaming underlines this theory. In that case we have analyzed Spotify as one of the fastest growing online music programs in the business. From their start in 2008 Spotify has contributed to renew the music and revolutionize the music industry with continuous launch of new services, markets and networks. Despite the uncomfortable positions people were put in, you could still feel the excitement and bliss leaving the crowd like smoke. The adrenaline surpassed expectations throughout the show, there was so much movement, from people jumping and dancing, to fists in the air so tight you could see their white knuckles a mile away. For a moment, the lead singer told the crowd how not many would know a song they were about to play, since it was before they became well known, and obviously, I knew it. As they began the introduction of the song, some of the crowd grew calm and quiet, while those who knew the song kept the same up-beat mood present throughout the rest of the…
