A Long Way Gone Summary

The book I have chosen was A Long Way Gone, I have read a lot about the war in Sierra Leone in 1991, where the book was based around. The war had started when the Special Forces of Charles Taylor's National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) had interviewed with Sierra Leone to try to take down the government. There was a lot of talk about how the human rights had joined in to help stop this war, not doing much to help thought. This war was characterized by “extreme brutality and widespread human rights abuses against civilians.” There was a lot of brutalities thought out this war, to warriors and civilians. Most of my research was about what had happened to trigger this effect and about the Human Rights. What triggered this is how Sierra Leone army came under attack not only from the NPFL but also from the Revolutionary United Front (RUF), led by former Sierra Leone army leader

That all went downhill from there because once the police from the UN went to sierra leone to help, one of the rebel leaders said that they were not welcome there, basically throwing everything down the drain but the UN didn't do much they got in the way and lost alot of their troops.
