Masland, Tom (2002) We Beat and Killed People. Newsweek, 139 (Issue 19) 24-29.
This article was about four former child soldiers in the Sierra Leon civil war that were interviewed by Newsweek. They each relive the horrors of their prior lives during the war and give us a walkthrough of just how savage these young boys were living at the time. The interview topics range from before the war, being forced into service, drug factors, atrocities, life after and future goals. The now teenage boys reminisce on their crusades of murder, amputations, tortures and rape in their younger days. This article is filled with individual stories of unthinkable evils these boys committed in a corrupted
evil time period called war.
I believe this is a very credible and useful source because it covers the intense moments of the Sierra Leon war right from the young soldiers/victims mouths. It goes into gripping vivid detail that allow me to feel as if I were there. The goal of this source was to allow me to truly understand the chilling lifestyle of a child soldier.

This article source starts off with the statics of child soldier use around the globe. The majority of this source covers the reasons why children might join military forces at such young ages. This article goes in depth of reasons such as forced recruitment, survival tactics, revenge, power, disapproval of political system, and liberation. The article then touches on the struggle of the reintegration process of these young child soldiers once the fighting is over.
This source is very useful because it gives me a broad comparison of child soldier use around the world. I will use this source for its information given about children recruitment. I gravitate to the article because of its information on self-volunteered child soldiers and their fascination of the glamour and power of military life. This source makes claims such as how children make the best soldiers due to their ability to follow command without question and cost efficient.
