English Essay: A Place Where I Have Been?
My Private Day Care

A private day care, my home away from home. I experienced an African adventure where

exotic plants flourished, a dominant aroma of spices tickled my nose and from wall to wall a

colorful, graphic and lively scene of nature and its wildlife surrounded me. It was a magical

place filled with many expressions and vivid detail. Theresa's home was designed and crafted

with her own hands; it was original and unique. From the art work on her walls to the nick

knacks on every ledge, it was her design. The spectacular and fresh look on the outside to the

intimate workings and detail on the inside it told a story of her life and exposed what

stood proud embraced by a miniature jungle, which was planted in an organized fashion just the

way she liked it. The front yard was pathway of endless greenery and exotic plants which

brought fresh, sweet and sensuous fragrances. Its beauty was truly astonishing and gave a

warm welcome to whom ever entered her magical garden. Her home was worshiped by nature,

the way it cuddles and clings to her place makes it seem that there is no other that is as special.

The tall green pine trees bring her shade and her flowers bloom fierce, bright and appear

succulent, inviting all kinds of creepy crawlies to try a taste of heaven.

The magnificence of Theresa's home does not end at the front door, in fact her artistic ness

is expressed throughout her home as well. It was her small piece of Africa, with just a touch of

the modern world. Yes of coarse there were two black leather couches, a t.v, a stereo, a toilette, a

kitchen table and appliances; it was not that much of a jungle. Although there were foreign

masks with over exaggerated and scary facial expressions, mysterious and exotic bugs in

On her doors and fridge were many portraits of her African journeys, safari

rides and pictures of us, the children at her day care.

Theresa's home was not very big, what makes it look so spacious is that every room

connects there is no room that is hidden completely away; except of coarse for the basement.

Everything in her house is so organized and beautifully kept, all toys, games, puzzles are kept in

containers, neatly stacked and categorized and the same strategy is used with other things as well.
Blankets were neatly folded and placed on the couches with care, the shoes by the door were

placed side by side, every window sill and ledge was dusted, the carpets and floors were washed

and vacuumed and there was not one dish in the sink. Theresa's home is so neat and tidy that you

could eat of her floors, you would never think that a private day care would take place here..

Not only did Theresa have an excessive amount of greenery outside she had it growing

within her home as well. She has miniature trees with rosy red flowers sprouting out of

This can be seen not only through the Classical Arundel marbles in the house, but also through the Classical Palladian architecture in whish it was constructed. The sheer size of the house reinforces the magnificence of the family; however, the plain, simple, regularity of the exterior emphasizes the classical influence displayed. Even thought hid building does not have columns of a typical Roman temple style construction, I still possessed many classical values. It is the buildings symmetry and plain exterior that are classical elements. The incorporation of these features was crucial during the early modern period, because it referenced both the Renaissance movement occurring throughout Europe, and Classical Rome. This displayed that the owner was worldly and aware of cultural movements, not just the ones in England. When the house was being constructed the Herbert family were considered “new men”, and had to prove themselves and their worth, through their collection and the construction of their house. Having a house of classical architecture indicated the family’s noble taste in the excellence, precision, and beauty of Antiquity. It is important to recognize a house as a part of a collection because it is more than just a building. It contains the insight to the family’s intimate, personal…

Here, we can presume that she uses rolled ‘r’s to deliver the line and to make it comically upper class, as expected from the Lady of the house in early 19th century. She uses a mixture of approximants alongside aspirates, which allow the line to remain strong and significant throughout as opposed to fading off towards the end. Her extensive use of vocabulary and mixture of aspirates, as in the phrase ‘rustic hovel’ allows her to fulfil her line to its dramatic potential, making it known that the garden is an indisputably important part of 1809…

I put on my best smile and awkwardly greeted the four girls and one boy standing among the greenery. Then, I realized that one of the “teenage” girls was one of the instructors; she took charge of the group and continued to show us a variety of flowers and plants. During lunch, I started to relax and take in the miniature forest of mostly purple, green and yellow flowers just starting to fully bloom. My eyes wandered outside of the forest when the honking of noisy trucks charging through the city street became too obnoxious to ignore. The first day was a Wednesday, Native Plant Day.…
