A Psychological Analysis Of Enrique's Journey

In the book Enrique decides to depart towards the U.S. due to the psychological trauma of being left behind that his mother instilled in him as a child. As a result, the issue makes Enrique an outcast, “Drogo, one of his aunts calls him. ... His grandmother points to a neighbor with pale, scaly skin who has sniffed glue for a decade. ‘Look! That’s how you’re going to end up’”(). This quote enlightens upon us that Enrique is obsessed with the thought that his mom neglected him becomes a mental disorder resulting in his consumption of drugs. Furthermore, he is also seen as an undesirable by his family and becomes yet another ridicule to society who deride him as a “drogo”. In conclusion, his mother’s disappearance and the lack of affection are what cause Enrique to venture to the United States.
The passage reads, “In spite of everything, Enrique has failed again… He tells himself over and over that he’ll just have to try again”(); in other words, Enrique’s path through maturing is underway as he learns a valuable lesson, he must work his own path to succeed. On the contrary, this development is a hindrance to his family who hope that Enrique is alive though they can’t corroborate their speculations.
