A Red Dress-1946 By Alice Munro
The short story, “A Red Dress-1946” written by Alice Munro displays how emotions can sometimes take over your actions, to whether how you respond to things that affect you physically, and mentally. The narrator has a difficult time portraying these actions and venting out her reactions. She lacks self esteem, and has troubles appreciating with what she has been provided with. However, she slowly overcomes these obstacles and is willing to break out of her comfort zone.

Compared to most teens and young adults today, we have lots of resources that can help boost our confidence in what our self perception is and what we stand in a social community. However, we don’t seem to find it through the simple and happy things in life. We look deeper

From what I think, maybe they are socially awkward, or they struggle to connect because others push them away from the social crowd. However, this is not represented in the short story but it could be implied. For example, “Why take them and not me? Why everybody else not me?” She does not talk with other people until they reach out to her. She is more focused on what they think about her. Mary Fortune is another example to how the narrator improved in facing the struggles to view her worth as a human being. My first semester in grade 10 was challenging because I was not able to find a group for myself in Science 10. Everyone seemed to just connect together like a puzzle and I was the only odd one. I questioned my ability to do these things and slowly started pulling myself more away from the crowd. I didn’t realize that would do me much more harm by making people think I didn’t know anything and got the wrong impression of me. Unfortunately, I did not get the chance of meeting my version of Mary Fortune, but I still had my other friends who could help me out when I needed it, who could listen to what I had to say about life. Slowly, my confidence in approaching a social group has increased
