Hello, this is your fellow knight. I work really hard in the feudal system. I must go to war and protect the manor. My job is to make sure everyone is doing their job. Most people would think are life is easy and cool, but it really isn’t. I’m almost at the bottom of the feudalism pyramid first come you guys, next the nobles, then me, the knights and finally the peasants. I would protect the peasants and they would give me food and other things in return, which is actually really nice.
I have a good amount of rights and responsibilities. Some rights include me having the right to stay in the manor castle due to the traveling I do. Another right I had was that I got to learn to read, write, and speak in french and …show more content…
latin. Not many people have this opportunity, which is why I took full advantage of it to be writing this letter. I have more rights like being able to have a horse, being able to leave the manor and etc. I also have many responsibilities. One responsibility I have is to be able to protect the manor because if I didn’t know I wouldn’t consider myself as a “Knight”. Another responsibility is having control over the rights I have and all knights should know that because they could get punished harshly, Since I have many rights and responsibilities I won’t be listing them, but there is more to it.
My job as a knight is to protect the manor under our supervision and to make sure everyone in the manor is doing their job.
The conditions of this can be good or bad. The good conditions would be that we travel, we live in the castle, we get rewarded for victories and we get celebrations. The bad conditions would be war because one thing I will say it’s not pretty. Another bad thing is that we get hurt even with all the armor on it hurts and it’s really heavy. There are many bad conditions like the way we get trained, the land of the peasants, and basically the nasty things. Well as everyone would know the big challenge of a knight of course is war, but it’s not just that. It’s just the knight life! It’s a really big struggle walking and riding in big heavy armor. Wars are also really scary and we have the pressure on us to protect the citizens and to win wars, but we also have to insure everyone is doing what they are supposed to. The advantages would be, as I said, the right to leave the manor, the food we receive, which is good for me and my family, and to be treated fair …show more content…
enough. I do own land which is good because I actually would be considered powerful, but not king or lord powerful. My living condition is really good because I get chances to live in the castle which is something I love to do. I really love the smell, the look, the feel and the quality. You just would feel really special. I have enough money to feed my family and to also pay taxes. I really don’t like paying taxes, but you know it’s what you got to do in order to live in the manor. I have many opportunities like the opportunity to read and write which is good because not many people get this opportunity. Another opportunity is being able to actually being able to talk to you the lord/lady.
My life is pretty good but there are some things that need to change.
One thing we need to change is the armor. We need to change this because the armor we wear is really heavy. It’s also hard to wear and there are so many parts to put on. It could also cause really bad back pain as we get older. The main thing we have to change is the way we get payed, actually we don’t get paid at all. I do understand you loan us money and many other things but if we don’t get paid how will we be able to get food and other useful things. This change will benefit the manor because knights would be able to actually provide their own services as well goes to the peasants and serfs. This would be good for you and the king. It will take you guys giving up a little more but also receiving a little more. Instead of having us the knights, vassals, peasants, and serfs to ask for a loan or money we wouldn’t have to do that, which is why I demand this change. I hope you will agree, it’s time for me to get ready for another war see you at the
castle.
Sincerely, Your Fellow Knight
