‘100’, started with an email from the Arcola Theatre in London, in July 2001 (Heimann, C. 2002), is a play that was written by Neil Monaghan, Christopher Heimann and Diene Petterle, a television/film producer and director. The play was produced by “The Imaginary Body” at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; which Monaghan, Heimann and Petterle, have written the piece for. Christopher Heimann has directed Interior at the Young Vic Theatre in London, while directing and co-writing The Imaginary Body’s ‘100’. Diene Petterle is primarily a television/film producer and director. Petterle has won 4 international awards as a film director and has had her films screened in Cannes, London Intl Film Festival, Berlin and many others (The Imaginary Body). The play was premiered in 2002, August 1st. It is set in the ‘void’ where the four characters meet each other. The playwrights chose this because they want to explore the topic of death and how it is applied to people of all ages and it is a universal theme. This play falls in the genre of drama. It is quite typical for the genre because it follows the lives that the characters had and what led them to their current situation. The style of this play is a mix as it includes elements of physical theatre with absurd theatre as there are a minimal use of props which would be used throughout the play. Heimann states that “We had often felt that we, as most Londeners, were running around and missing some kind of balance in our everyday lives.” This is reflected whether the victims are close to the person who has died or a known figure. The play has received a very strong and positive feedback which then made Heimann and Petterle to make the decision of developing
