A Star Spangled Catastrophe: Character Analysis
The author developed the story through Angie and Pete’s Friendship in the play A Star-Spangled Catastrophe, showing how two friends support each other and not bring them down but bring them up.

One way the author shows the theme is when Angie supports Pete. In paragraph 13, Angie says “Don't worry, you are the best singer in the school”. This sentence reassures Pete and shows that Angie supports Pete. Also in paragraph 33, Angie tells the media coordinator that she missed the clip of him messing up, which makes Pete feel way better and shows how Angie is supportive of Pete which makes him feel better about himself and then wants to keep going and do the halftime show.

At the end of the story, both friends solved the issue and were both happy.

    The first thing that comes to mind reading the story is the repeated usage of music and drugs. Since the story is set in the sixties, the music was changing – much like the attitudes and beliefs of the people. Drug use was becoming more common and accepted. This social theory was that there were many levels of civility in a society. These levels were hunting, pasturage, agriculture, and commerce. One example of the first level which is hunting is the the Native Americans. The excepted social process is that a country was to go through all of these levels by starting out on hunting and eventually the society would mature and work its way up to the point of being a commercially based society.
