Character Analysis: The Hero's Journey

The Hero’s Journey is a common template of how a tale/story about a hero will go. It usually involves a hero that goes on a journey/adventure and defeats/solves something and comes home changed/transformed. It was the American scholar Joseph Campbell that introduced this concept. Spiderman is one of many heroes that follow this outline.
Before Spiderman became a superhero he was just an ordinary high school boy, Peter Parker. He was considered a nerd because he was very smart and only had Harry Osborne as a friend. The girl Peter was infatuated with, Mary Jane, barely ever noticed him. Peter’s parents had died when he was very young and his Uncle Ben and Aunt May had raised him. Peter is unhappy in his ordinary world.
Peter’s call to adventure is when he gets bitten by a genetically modified spider that has escaped from its display on his school field trip to a laboratory. The spider changes Peter's DNA and gives him enhanced physical strength. Also it gives him spider-like abilities such as shooting webs, climbing walls, and enhanced senses.
He ends up saving both of them with the help of the New York civilians.
The final battle is when Spiderman fights Green Goblin in an abandoned building. The green Goblin has already weakened Spiderman before they start fighting. Peter gets stronger as the fight goes on and is starting to beat the Green goblin. The green goblin takes off his mask and shows that he is Harry’s father. As he is distracting Spiderman he is about to kill him with his glider but Peter jumps out of the way and it hits the Green Goblin.
The reward that Peter gets is both Mary Jane becoming a true hero. Peter fights so hard for Mary Jane because she is the girl that he has always loved and cared about. But Peter must turn away from Mary Jane because he doesn’t want he to be endangered
