A Summary Of Animals In John Steinbeck's Travels With Charley
Animals are the enlightened ones

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened” by Anatole France. Animals are loyal companions, they bring the good side out of us and make us better people in society. We hear time and time again how animals help us in our daily lives. In the story, Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck, Charley is a real companion to his owner.“A little farther along two bears showed up, and the effect was doubled. Charley became a maniac (Steinbeck,pg 146,pp 4).”This shows that Charley is preparing to attack the bears. This makes Charley’s owner realize that charley was only protecting him from the bears. This show that Charley is a loyal companion to his owner by protecting him.
