A Summary Of The Bear Shifter Clan
Veronica Harper was ready to let bygones be bygones. She'd spent enough years fighting tooth and claw to know that nobody won in a drag out brawl. It was better for all parties to come to the peace table. But being the leader of a Bear Shifter Clan meant many things, the most important of which was to be the kind of leader that the rest of the Clan would follow. That meant never losing face. Even if the person you're staring down is a handsome hunk with more charm than he realizes.

Slade Walker knew things were tense. This Clan rivalry was close to spilling into a war, and he didn't know how many casualties would be on each side. Too many, surely. But these women just wouldn't leave his Clan alone. From the problem with the hives to the

Cole Matthews is an abused child who turned into a troubled kid because his parents abused him every day. He became an angry person who was willing to take anybody out in his way. When he got into trouble he would manipulate everyone into thinking he was sorry but he never really meant it. Cole hated everyone because anytime he didn’t get his way he would resort to the same violence and anger his father used on him. Cole thinks everything is a game, he thinks he should never be responsible for his own actions. Cole managed to get away with everything with no issues until he assaulted Peter. Cole thought he did no wrong because Peter told on him and anyone. Cole thought he could talk his way out of the assault charges like the other events when he got into trouble. The only reason Cole joined circle justice is because Garvey told him he could avoid going to jail. If Garvey hadn’t gotten Cole to join Circle Justice he wouldn’t have changed his bad ways. Being alone on the island, getting attacked by the spirit bear, and learning ways to relieve his anger through soaking in the pond and pushing the rock taught him to view the world in a new perspective. Cole realized that staying angry was the worst thing he could have done. He finally accepted his actions and saw the error in his ways. I saw the change in Cole’s character when he wanted to help Peter channel his anger. Cole never cared about anyone besides himself throughout his entire life. He was actually trying to help and wanted to be forgiven by Peter. Cole deceived everyone in his life and never cared about it. It was now in his best interest to become a better person, and rid himself of the evil he did in his life.…

In Phillip Devitt’s analysis of the short story, he makes a very good point when he says that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade have had an everlasting rivalry and it is one that has carried over into the adult years. I agree with this, as the clues in the story definitely point out many key aspects that show that they are really jealous of one another. Like previously stated, this rivalry is especially intense on Mrs. Slade’s part. Even in the younger years, Mrs. Slade shows her jealousy early when she forges the letter to Mrs. Ansley “from her husband” in order to get the two in two different places that night. We see this jealously and hate carry over into later years in the conversation that they have in Rome. Mrs. Slade is very obviously jealous of Mrs. Ansley’s daughter, Barbara, especially in a sense of her assertiveness in terms of being with new men.…

In the time of the 1600’s, women were badly treated by their husbands, if ever they were to speak against them. Brooks managed to incorporate this historical context throughout the novel, to emphasise the importance of women obeying their husbands, and putting up with their brutal and barbarous behaviour. When Anys Gowdie had her final act of defiance before she was killed, she had stated that many women had had affairs against their husbands. Urith Gordon endured harsh physical violence once her husband, John Gordon knew of the affair. “Before she could answer, he smashed his fist into her face. Blood streamed from her nose”. This quote shows that Brooks highlights the abusive nature, in which each character encounters, assert the mental and behavioural changes at the time of the plague for both male and female characters. Brooks mentions Anna’s father, Josiah Bont being a human of a “brutal and…

Destructive passions tie into this story so well from Mrs. Slade’s animosity of Mrs. Ansley to forge a letter to expose her to roman fever and remove her from the picture. Intimacy another passion centralized within the story is found in the late night intimacy between Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade’s husband Delphin. Deception is widely used in this story such as the forgery of a letter from Delphin Slade to Grace Ansley but it was actually written by Alida Slade, the soon to be wife of Delphin. Jealousy, envy, and two-facedness were the leading passions in the text the resentment to Mrs. Ansley for the last 25 years, as well as the envy of Mrs. Ansley’s daughter, Barbara, because she was in all ways better than her own daughter Jenny. Ms. Slade who had detested Mrs. Ansley and was wallowing in her own sorrows while Mrs. Ansley lived nearby not leading the greatest life but certainly a happy life with her husband Horace and her…

Black bears are the only specie of bear that live in New England. (Whittle) Normally humans and black bears are able to coexist peacefully, however, the population of black bears in New England is growing–and it’s causing problems for the locals. In fact, there are currently around 36,000 bears in Maine, 6,000 more than there were five years ago. (Whittle) While some states are calling for hunters to increase the number of bears they kill during hunting season, some people are saying this method of population control is inhumane. Instead, they suggest trap and release methods be used in order to relocate bears to areas away from humans. There are different types of traps used to capture bears, however, most of them are dangerous and possibly…

The encounter between Little Bee and Sarah O’Rourke was entirely dependent on chance. Prior to such an encounter, neither had known the other existed, and were at the beach for different reasons. However, to fully develop the plot, Cleave takes advantage of the unexpected encounter to sow the seeds of a potential friendship and bond between two women of different races. He later exploits the plot by using the accidental confrontation as a reason for Andrew O’Rourke’s suicide as well. The encounter between Little Bee and Sarah O’Rourke proves significant when the O’Rourkes were given a decision whether or not Little Bee and her sister would live. Sarah obliges to the armed terrorists’ ransom for Little Bee’s life but Andrew allows her sister to die. When Andrew refuses to give up his finger, Sarah pleads with him, saying, “Just a finger, Andrew, and then we’ll walk back again” (114). Though the first encounter at the beach impacts the plot, the encounter was arbitrary. The undesired ramifications of this confrontation again underscore Cleave’s clever use of coincidence to manipulate the novel.…
