The first thing I noticed in this picture were the blue butterflies. My eyes were then drawn to her bright hair bow because to me it symbolizes her spirit. The way the artist arranged the picture from brightest to dullest/darkest color. I believe the emotion evoked in this picture was happiness even though she’s not smiling these are the things that make her happy. The authors purpose of drawing my eyes to the butterflies is to show why she’s so calm. My initial feeling of this picture was to showcase that you don’t have to have much to be happy.

Her facial expression shows grace, humble, and peace. Her pose is more like a soft exposure, also the hairstyle which is an up-do that shows elegance and seems as if she’s in her own fantasy world.

The major shape in this visual is the lady everything else has no shape, she major shape hence why she’s front and center in the visual. The major color to me is the blue, which is the brightest color in this visual. The colors are arranged from lightest to darkest. This image is very much so balanced as though it could be symmetrical.
• Color: The color does have a focal point, which is the lady dressed in blue butterflies & a bright coral hair bow.
• Figure- Ground Contrast: Duy, the author, definitely emphasized the figure from the background. The background has a smudge like texture, while the figure is clear with fine lines and much more detail.
• Symbols: In my belief the butterflies communicate peace, they’re also graceful animals. The way the butterflies are attached to her, they know she’s just as graceful as they are. Butterflies also represent being free, and the lady seems to be free of her problems.
• Juxtaposition: The placement of the lady; being in front shows how she has overcome her obstacles and is now in the lead of her own
