ABC Company Inc.: Policy Analysis
Policy:
Due to the health concerns arising from exposure to environmental tobacco smoke, ABC Company Inc. has instituted this policy to provide a smoke-free environment for all employees and visitors.

Definitions:
This policy covers the smoking of any tobacco product and the use of smokeless (or spit) tobacco.
Employers in the new age of technology should embrace being more flexible in offering better working conditions to their employees, their relaxing of the standard working environment could sustain and strengthen relationships in the workplace and giving a more positive outlook on the work day.

Employers need to offer an open line of communication from their staff to receive and process any feedback where they can collectively take

Employers can offer incentives to help reduce any losses in productivity such as more flexible working hours to accommodate a work-life balance, further training for staff in other skills for diversity of a skills base inside the company or the old style financial reward or recognition can be encouraging. To get more out of their staff employers should be looking towards more ideas such as incorporating more team based skills with projects, tasks and even problem solving this allows more interaction and encourages better communication and giving praise and acknowledgement for their contribution.

Supervisors will ensure periodic cleanups of the designated smoking area.

There will be no smoking in company vehicles at any time.

Supervisors will discuss the issue of smoking breaks with their staff. Together they will develop an effective solution that will not interfere with the productivity of the staff but allow for the wishes of the employee to be met.

Procedure:
Employees will be informed of this policy through signs posted in buildings and vehicles, the policy manual, and will receive orientation and training from their supervisors.

Visitors will be informed of this policy through signs and it will be explained by their host.

The company will assist employees who wish to quit smoking by facilitating access to recommended smoking cessation programs and materials.

Any violations of this policy will be handled through standard disciplinary procedures.
