I believe there shouldn’t be a ban on hiring smokers because if you really think about it majority of today’s society does smoke. There will be many places that would be underemployed because there won’t be enough people out there to hire because they smoke. If they want to smoke there needs to be a designated place for them to smoke and they either A need to bring a change of clothes to smoke in or B just don’t smoke while working. The change of clothes could be used because the smell of the smoke stays in the clothes and say they are taking care of a patient who has asthma, well the smoke smell on the clothes wouldn’t be good for the patients and there is nothing that covers up the smell of smoke once on your clothes or in your hair. So therefore I think there should not be a ban on hiring smokers.…
The health effects of smoking in the workplace are well-known and recent studies have proven not only first hand smoking to be dangerous, but passive or second hand smoke to be just as, if not more dangerous. This is why I believe smoking should be banned both inside and outside of the workplace.…
There are more than 7,000 chemicals in a single cigarette. Those chemicals can be very harmful. Smoking cigarettes should be illegal because you can get lung cancer and secondhand smoke harms other people that are around you.…
The Center for disease Control reports that cigarette smoke causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. This is about one in five deaths. The center adds that smoking causes more deaths every year than Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, and firearm- related incidents. With this being a known fact there are still smokers in today’s world. The question that should be asked is why do people smoke cigarettes despite their proven dangers? Smoking cannot only damage or bring harm to every organ in the human body, but it can cause countless diseases. If people just stopped smoking altogether, they would decrease the risk of smoke-related diseases and most importantly…
The health consequences of smoking have become evident since early 1960s and numerous techniques to help smokers to become non-smokers have developed. Smoking is the largest preventable cause of cancer, and is responsible for more cancer deaths in Australia. It is also directly responsible for many heart and lung diseases. Smoking has effects on the smoker, as well as those around them. Changing health-risk behaviour has been shown to decrease morbidity and mortality and enhance a better quality of life. This essay aims to describe theories and models that are effective interventions to help the cessation of smoking, and relapses. Most of the mortality and morbidity is caused by individual behavioural lifestyle, smoking, alcohol and recreational drugs. The theories I am going to discuss are The Theory of Planned Behaviour and the Trans theoretical Model changes. Also this assignment will…
Tobacco was the first crop grown for money in North America. In 1964 the Surgeon General of the U.S. wrote a report about the dangers of cigarette smoking. He said that the nicotine and tar in cigarettes cause lung cancer. Due to his report by the 1980’s they developed new cigarettes with lower amounts of nicotine and better filters (History & Economics of Tobacco). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) launched the first ever paid national tobacco campaign. In March of 2012 they began to use real people instead of actors (Centers of Disease Control and Prevention). The illustration of loading a revolver with cigarettes is a strong visual way to get people’s attention on the harms of smoking. Also, the facts listed are making…

In order to write a good paper or even take a picture to convince someone of an issue that is at hand, you must have good voice, writing style and valid information. Using three key terms, Pathos, Logos, and Ethos, is another way to get your point across to the audience and try to convince them to acknowledge the issue at hand such as second hand smoke. Second hand smoke is a common in a household whom the parents of children smoke. Second hand smoke can be inhaled, by sitting in the car as your parent’s smoke, sitting on the couch next your family as they smoke, or even having someone blow the smoke unintentionally in your direction and some children fall victim to the long term effects second hand smoke can leave on people. With these two sources,…
When Christopher Columbus first came to the Americas, his crew members were introduced to smoking by the indigenous people who gave them the dried leaves as a present. “Tobacco [can] be chewed, drunk as tea, inhaled as powder (snuff), inserted as a liquid enema and consumed as jelly, but it was smoking, the burning of the herb to produce smoke, that quickly became part of a priestly healing ritual, both to diagnose and cure illness, as well as to drive out the evil spirits that had supposedly caused it…smoking was a cure, but it soon became a passion” (Gilman 9).…
