Persuasive Essay Why Smoking is Bad for You
Today thousands of people will suffer and die from smoking and illnesses that are caused by smoking. I will touch on how a person becomes addicted, who nicotine addiction is affecting and how, and last but not least, a cure and/or treatment for quitting smoking. Nicotine is a very addictive drug. When inhaled it reaches the brain faster than drugs that enter our body intravenously. Smokers become physically addicted because once nicotine reaches the brain it fits a host of chemical locks permitting it direct and indirect control over the flow of more than 200 neuro-chemicals. How successful any one method will be depends on your personality, how heavily addicted to cigarettes you are, and whether family, social, school, and/or work environments will help or hinder your efforts to quit. Studies of successful ex-smokers have shown that support from others and regular exercise is two factors that improve the chances of success. Some people quit “cold turkey,” while others taper down more slowly. Many people find it difficult to manage the dosage of nicotine while using the gum. Possible side effects include burning sensations in the mouth and throat, nausea, and vomiting. More people will become sick, and more families will suffer loses. Millions of people smoke and want to quit and cannot. Nicotine is so addicting that even knowing the end result of smoking people are trapped by their addiction. It’s a shame the Government doesn’t outlaw the distribution of nicotine. Unfortunately for many Americans money is more important to our Government than their health when it comes to the controlling of such a deadly and addicting killer. Over the last several years surveys show an increase in the number of people who smoke. Smoking is already the single largest preventable cause of illness and premature death in the United States. What will it take to stop this epidemic, and how many more lives are we going to let it
