The every key stakeholder views are different according to their position. The employees who don’t smoke they think WEYCO is doing really good for them as well for their company by the non-smoking policy. Because, it helps them stay healthy and more motive to their work. But on the other hand, the employee who smokes they think WEYCO is imposing restrictions on their freedom not only at work but also on their personal life at home too by making them to quit smoking at all. What are the ethical issues to consider when deciding to fire tobacco users?
When WEYCO was deciding to fire tobacco users the big ethical issues come up is quitting smoking at home is very hard for highly addicted peoples because it come their norms of life. People who are highly addicted of smoking can hardly control them self to not smoke at work but its very hard for them to not smoke at home. Second, ethical issue of fire tobacco users is it lost tobacco users hopes by lowering their self-confidence. It’s right because it helping employees to stay healthy and safe by quitting smoking. Also WEYCO engages employees to work more effectively with other workers instead of causing health problems. As it was mention in the case that “16,000 people were dying annually due to tobacco use” so after reading this we have sense to understand that WEYCO is helping to decrease that numbers of deaths by their non-smoking policy. However, WEYCO leads to many positive results but it also have some bad impacts on employee’s life. It affects employee’s confidence by firing them from work. There are many people who really want to quit smoking but they can’t because of their high addiction so I think weyco should understand those peoples problem and give them chance or more time to quit
