Act I
Abby manipulates john procter throughout act 1. In Act I, her unique skills and manipulation are clearly shown. When she's on the edge of getting caught for messing in witchcraft, she manages to frame the whole thing on Tituba and many of Salem's other second-class citizens. since Abys short affair with John Proctor, she's been out to get his wife. abby convinced Tituba to put a curse on Elizabeth, hoping to get rid of her and take her place so she could be with john.

Later on in act iii she loses her last shred of will by damning John Proctor. even though she states that she loves him. When John attempts to tell Abyss lies, she skillfully proceeds to turn the whole thing back on him at the end. Abby did all she could to keep herself alive and get what she wanted all the way to the end, eventually leaving town with all of her uncle's money. The character of Abby williams is often made out to be selfish. She doesn't let out one shred of sympathy the whole play, making her seem absolutely crazy and diabolical. although, even though Abby's actions are gritty and selfish, they are in her eyes good. For instance, Miller tells an important detail about Abby's youth that tells us a clue about where her crazes might have originated from.
