The people who run the institutions expect that by abusing them, the population will be easier to control and will become a better environment for the indigenous children to grow up in. In reality, however, the results are quite the opposite. People who are abused as children often turn into abusers themselves as adults. This creates a never ending cycle of child abuse in both Native American and Aboriginal communities. Often the excuse for taking these indigenous children is that they were being abused by their parents. Whether they were or not, the children are sent to institutions where the abuse is much worse than it had been at home. And later in life, there is a higher chance that the child will abuse his or her own children, which starts the cycle all over again. So why do people even bother trying to help these groups? They are only making matters worse by forcefully taking children away from their families, abusing them, and then expecting them to be well-behaved and obedient later in life (Giago,
